Paniliakos Football Club ( el, Πανηλειακός Α.Ο. Πύργου) is a Greek association football club based in Pyrgos, Elis, Greece. The club plays in Gamma Ethniki, the third tier of Greek football. It plays its home matches at the Pyrgos Stadium. Paniliakos was the team of Serbia and Montenegro international Predrag Đorđević, before moving to Olympiacos, Greece international Stelios Giannakopoulos, and of Vassilis Lakis, also a Greece international. History Early years The football at Pyrgos began to spread, in particular, in the early 20th century. Initially, it was embraced by popular mass and gradually gaining more and more people. Pittsburghs with improvised balls in each neighborhood were, with time passing, into the new sport and they loved football. One of the first football matches in Pyrgos was the struggle of a group of Pyrgians against a group of English workers who lived in the port of Katakolo. Elis (regional Unit)
Elis or Ilia ( el, Ηλεία, ''Ileia'') is a historic region in the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. It is administered as a regional unit of the modern region of Western Greece. Its capital is Pyrgos. Until 2011 it was Elis Prefecture, covering the same territory. The modern regional unit is nearly coterminous with the ancient Elis of the classical period. Here lie the ancient ruins of cities of Elis, Epitalion and Olympia, known for the ancient Olympic Games which started in 776 BC. Geography The northernmost point of Elis is 38° 06'N, the westernmost is 22° 12′E, the southernmost is 37° 18′N, and the easternmost is 21° 54′E. The length from north to south is , and from east-to-west is around . The modern regional unit is not completely congruent with ancient Elis: Lampeia belonged to ancient Arcadia, and Kalogria is now part of Achaea. The longest river is the Alfeios. Vassilis Lakis
Vasilios Lakis ( el, Βασίλειος Λάκης; born 10 September 1976) is a Greek former professional footballer. He was nicknamed "Turbo" for his speed when attacking along the right wing and ability to provide accurate crosses for the strikers in the area. Club career Naoussa Lakis started his career in for Naoussa and he began his career as a defender but his earliest coaches, recognizing his natural ability, moved him to the attacking wing, where he has since shone. In Naoussa Lakis played with players like the then future star, Vasilios Tsiartas. Paniliakos In the summer 1995, Lakis signed for the professional club Panileiakos and in the next season he helped the team to finish in the 7th place in the Greek League by scoring 7 goals. AEK Athens On 12 June 1998 Lakis was transferred to AEK Athens for a fee of 600,000,000 drachmas.
