Panchi Barrera
Gustavo Javier Barrera Castro, commonly known as Panchi Barrera (born April 6, 1985, in Uruguay) is an Uruguayan-Spanish professional basketball player. His jersey's number is 9. He is a longtime member of the Uruguay national basketball team and is currently playing professionally with Hebraica y Macabi of Liga Uruguaya de Basketball. Professional career Barrera started his professional career in 2001 with Welcome Montevideo in Uruguay. He played several years with DKV Joventut in Spain, including six games with the team at the ULEB Cup 2003-04. After several years on the bench, he had his best season back in Uruguay in 2007-08 for second place Hebraica y Macabi, averaging 14.1 points and 6.9 assists per game. Following this season, he was invited to play on the Houston Rockets' summer league team over the 2008 summer. Basketball at the 2007 Pan American Games took place at the indoor arena in the Autódromo de Jacarépagua in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an arena which was built specially for the Pan Am Games. Brazil was the reigning Pan American champion in the men's competition, while Cuba defended its title in the women's competition. Each competition had eight teams divided in two groups. In each group, each team played against all others once and the two best advanced to the semifinals. The two latter in each group played in 5th to 8th classification matches. FIBA Americas Championship 2009
The 2009 FIBA Americas Championship, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the continental championship held by FIBA Americas, for North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. This FIBA AmeriCup championship served as a qualifying tournament for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. Each of the top four finishers in the quarterfinal round robin qualified for the World Championship. Brazil won the gold medal, after beating host Puerto Rico, 61–60, in the title game. This was Brazil's fourth FIBA AmeriCup title, and second in the last three tournaments. At the time FIBA world number 1 ranked Argentina claimed the bronze medal, over fourth placed Canada. FIBA Americas Championship 2009 Qualification
Qualifying for the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship the basketball championships for the Americas (North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America) began on August 12, 2007 at the FIBA CBC Championship for national teams from the Caribbean. Three teams qualified from that tournament to the 2008 Centrobasket, from which four automatic berths are available. South American teams qualified via the 2008 South American Basketball Championship, held at Puerto Montt, Chile. The Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team based in Houston.
