Pan Bazaar (also spelled as Panbazar) (অসমীয়া: পানবজাৰ) is a locality in Guwahati, India surrounded by localities of Paltan Bazaar, Ambari and Fancy Bazaar. Situated on the banks of the river Brahmaputra, it is part of the city centre. Pan Bazaar means "betel-leaf mart" in English. The locality is known for its various administrative, cultural and religious buildings. It is also known for being a shopping district. The District Court ( Kamrup) and the Guwahati branch of the Reserve Bank of India are major administrative buildings located in Pan Nazaar. Restaurants and bookshops in the area provide a unique environment. It is also a major wholesale market for drugs and pharmaceutical products and a hub for printing and publication. Close to Dighalipukhuri, there are many stores with traditional arts and crafts from Assam and other parts of the North East Region. Handique Girls College
Handique Girls College is a constituent college of the University of Gauhati. It is one of the oldest colleges located in the Indian state of Assam and offers undergraduate courses in Arts and Science. History The College has its roots initially as Panbazar Girls' High school. Subsequently, the Handique Girls College was established in 1939 as the Guwahati Girls College. Mrs Rajabala Das was the founder principal of the college. The college was initially located in the Panbazar area of the city. With the shifting to the present site in 1940, the college was renamed Handique Girls College (in honour of noted philanthropist R. Sukreswar Temple
The Sukreswar (Pron: ˌʃʊˈkreɪʃwə) Temple is an important Shiva temple in the state of Assam in India. The temple is located on the Sukreswar or Itakhuli hill on the south bank of river Brahmaputra in the Panbazar locality of Guwahati city. Leading down from the temple compound is a long flight of steps to the river. Narengi
Narengi (Pron: nʌˈreŋgɪ or næˈreŋgɪ) is a locality in Guwahati. Located in the extreme east of city, it is sparsely populated. An army camp is located in southern part of the locality. Cotton University
Cotton University (formerly known as ''Cotton College'') is a public state university located in Guwahati, Assam, India. It was established in 2017 by the provisions of an Act from the Assam Legislative Assembly which merged Cotton College State University and Cotton College. The University has progressed to become one of the top 200 institutions of the country (appearing on the list of 150–200 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework rank list in May 2020). Maligaon
The headquarters of Northeast Frontier Railway and Northeast Frontier Railway Stadium is situated here. The place is also known for goddess Durga pandals. Chandmari
Chandmari is one of the oldest localities of Guwahati, Assam, India. Situated towards the eastern side of the city. Beltola
Beltola is a prime residential area in the southern part of Guwahati, Assam. Mythical sources claimed that the word Beltola comes from the word Bilvapatra, which means leaves of Bael tree, used in religious ceremonies. It was said that in olden day's large quantities of Bael tree leaves were sent to Kamakhya Temple to be used in rituals. It was from that time the place is called as Beltola. It is an adjoining area of the Dispur Capital Complex, the capital of Assam.
