Panathinaikos Field Hockey
Panathinaikos AC Field Hockey department was refounded in 2014. History The field hockey department of Panathinaikos was one of the first in Greece. It was founded in 1927, while there was not a Greek league. The team was forced to play abroad against foreign teams. The first athletes of the team were Cypriots or athletes from the other departments of the club. Main contributors were Renos Fragoudis, Diomidis Symeonidis and Athanasios Aravositas. Some members of the first team were Angelos Filippou, Nikos Mantzaroglou (the table tennis athlete), Renos Fragoudis, Athanasios Aravositas, Chrisanthos Tsoukalas, Kleon Zachos, Kimon Zachos, Nikos Chrisafis, Lefteris Frantzeskakis, Angelos Messaris Angelos Messaris ( Greek: Άγγελος Μεσσάρης; 1910-1978) was a Greek footballer. Hellinikon Olympic Hockey Centre
The Hellinikon Olympic Hockey Centre was the site of the field hockey events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Located in the Hellinikon Olympic Complex, the facility consists of two hockey fields. The larger stadium seats 7,200 fans – though only 5,200 seats were made publicly available during the Games, and the smaller stadium seats 2,100 spectators – though only 1,200 seats were made publicly available during the Games. The facility was completed on February 29, 2004, and officially opened on August 11, 2004, shortly before the beginning of the Games. During the 2004 Summer Paralympics, the Olympic Hockey Centre was the venue for Football 5-a-side and Football 7-a-side competitions. The hockey centre has since fallen into disuse and disrepair. Dimitrios Pavlos Giannakopoulos (alternate spellings: Dimitris Giannacopoulos) (Greek: Δημήτρης Παύλος Γιαννακόπουλος) (born on June 22, 1974, Athens) is a Greek businessman and pharmaceutical manufacturer. He is the President of the Board and CEO of VIANEX, owner of Panathinaikos B.C. as well as owner of the 50% of the company SUPERFOODS SA, among many other activities. Greek Field Hockey League
The Greek Field Hockey Championship or Greek Field Hockey League ( el, Ελληνικό Πρωτάθλημα Χόκει επί Χόρτου) was the most important domestic competition of the Field Hockey in Greece. The championship started after founding of Hellenic Hockey Federation in 1994. There have been eighteen championships until abolishing of Hockey Federation during November 2014. The Greek Federation was abolished for the ground that the number of teams was less of required number. Also there have been serious complaints for conducting fake youth championships in order to participant pupils to have taken bonus grades for universities' entrance examinations. Diomidis Symeonidis (1908 – 24 April 1981) was a Cypriot footballer, one of the founders of APOEL. Symeonidis was born in 1908 and was, along with his brother Christos, a footballer of Aetos - a local Nicosia club - until 1926 when he met Georgios Poulias. The two men founded POEL which evolved into APOEL. Symeonidis played for the team he co-founded until 1929 when he transferred to Panathinaikos in the Greek League. His career at PAO ended in 1934 due to an injury and Symeonidis returned to Cyprus where he was player/coach for APOEL until 1936. Angelos Messaris (Greek: Άγγελος Μεσσάρης; 1910-1978) was a Greek footballer. He played for Panathinaikos and he is widely regarded as the best Greek player of the pre-war era. This is probably also due to the myth that for decades followed his sudden and mysterious early leaving from football. He made his last appearance in the football field on 23 April 1931 at the age of 21, in a match against AEK Athens. Panathinaikos were losing 2-0 but Messaris tied the score with two reverse headers and he received great cheering.
