Panathinaikos Fencing
Panathinaikos Fencing Club is the fencing department of Panathinaikos A.O., the Greek multi-sport club based in Athens and is one of the most successful departments of the club. The home ground of the team is in the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium. The department was founded in 1912 by John Cyril Campbell and was refounded in 1960 after World War II. Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium
Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium ( el, Γήπεδο Απόστολος Νικολαΐδης), commonly known as Leoforos Alexandras Stadium or Leoforos Stadium, is a football stadium and multi-sport center in Athens, Greece. It was inaugurated in 1922 and is the oldest football stadium in Greece currently active. It is the traditional athletic center of Panathinaikos A.C. and has been the home ground of Panathinaikos FC for the most part of the club's existence. The stadium is named after the historic club's president, official and athlete Apostolos Nikolaidis. It is situated in the Ambelokipi district of Athens, east of the Lycabettus Hill and on Alexandras Avenue 160, by which name it is most commonly known (''Leoforos Alexandras'' or simply ''Leoforos'', Leoforos meaning Avenue). Giannis Ioannidis (fencer)
Giannis Ioannidis (alternate spellings: Ioannis, Yiannis, Yannis) ( Greek: Γιάννης Ιωαννίδης; born 26 February 1945 in Thessaloniki, Greece) is a former Greek basketball player, professional basketball coach, and Greece New Democracy (ND) politician. Ioannidis is generally considered to be the best Greek professional basketball club head coach of all-time, since he is the one with the most top-tier level major Greek national club titles won (19 in total, 14 with Aris, and 5 with Olympiacos). Biography Ioannidis was born in Thessaloniki, and studied Agriculture in the Faculty of Geotechnical Sciences at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is married and has one daughter. Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. Xenophon Chatzisarantos
Xenophon of Athens (; grc, Ξενοφῶν ; – probably 355 or 354 BC) was a Greek military leader, philosopher, and historian, born in Athens. At the age of 30, Xenophon was elected commander of one of the biggest Greek mercenary armies of the Achaemenid Empire, the Ten Thousand, that marched on and came close to capturing Babylon in 401 BC. As the military historian Theodore Ayrault Dodge wrote, "the centuries since have devised nothing to surpass the genius of this warrior". Despina Georgiadou ( gr. Δέσποινα Γεωργιάδου) is a Greek sabre fencer. She won the silver medal in the women's sabre event at the 2023 World Fencing Championships held in Milan, Italy. Previously, she had won one of the bronze medals in the women's sabre event at the 2022 World Fencing Championships held in Cairo, Egypt. She won a silver medal in World Cup 2022 in Hammamet, Tunisia, a gold medal in World Cup 2023 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and a bronze bedal in World Cup 2023 in Algiers, Algeria. Andreas Vgenopoulos (businessman)
Andreas Vgenopoulos (10 December 1953 − 5 November 2016) was the chairman of Marfin Investment Group and was a major shareholder of Panathinaikos FC. Vgenopoulos resigned from Panathinaikos in June 2010 citing differences with Giannis Vardinogiannis. His departure disappointed the fans of Panathinaikos. Vgenopoulos owned 1% of Marfin Popular Bank and 1,5% of the Marfin Investment Group. He had also been a Greek champion of Panathinaikos' Fencing department. Education and business career Vgenopoulos graduated from University of Athens with a degree in Law and from Long Island University (U.S.) with an MBA.
