Flagler County is a County (United States), county located in the North Florida, northeastern portion of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 115,378. Its county seat is Bunnell, Florida, Bunnell. Created in 1917 from portions of St. Johns County, Florida, Saint Johns and Volusia County, Florida, Volusia Counties, it was named for Henry Flagler, who built the Florida East Coast Railway. Flagler County is included in the Deltona–Daytona Beach–Ormond Beach, FL metropolitan statistical area, and is also included in the Greater Orlando, Orlando-Deltona-Daytona Beach, FL Combined Statistical Area. Henry Morrison Flagler (January 2, 1830 – May 20, 1913) was an American industrialist and a founder of Standard Oil, which was first based in Ohio. He was also a key figure in the development of the Atlantic coast of Florida and founder of the Florida East Coast Railway. He is also known as a founder of the cities of Miami and Palm Beach, Florida. Early life and education Flagler was born in Hopewell, New York. His father was Isaac Flagler, a Presbyterian minister and great-grandson of Zacharra Flegler, whose family had emigrated from the German Palatinate region to Holland in 1688. Zacharra worked in England for several years before moving to Dutchess County, New York, in 1710. His grandson Solomon changed the spelling of the surname to Flagler and passed it on to his 11 children.
