Palliyadi is a panchayat town in Kanniyakumari district in Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Tamil is the official language spoken; It has been a centre of life for many centuries and have been predominantly occupied by wealthy aristocrat Christian Nadars and Nair families. The majority of the population is Christian. Marshal Nesamony
A. Nesamony, sometimes known as Marshal Nesamony, was a political leader from Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu, India. He was the second son of Kesavan Appavu Nadar, born on 12 June 1895 at Nesarpuram, Palliyadi in Vilavancode Taluk, Kanyakumari district. He graduated from Maharaja's College in Thiruvananthapuram, and studied at law college in Thiruvananthapuram. He began practising in 1921. He was among those involved with the merger of four Taluks from Southern Travancore to Tamil Nadu. Early life He was educated at Scott Christian High School and then at C.M.S. College in Tirunelveli. While studying at C.M.S. College, he was elected as students' leader, which provided him with an opportunity to attend the Congress Conference at Calcutta. Influenced by Mahatma Gandhi at that time, he chose to wear only Khadi cotton dresses throughout his life. Charles Kamalam Job
Dr. Charles Kamalam Job (1923–2012) was a leading Indian medical surgeon. He is considered to be a pioneer of leprosy treatment in the world. His research interests were related to pathology and immunology of leprosy and its transmission. He was the earliest scientist to use the electron microscope in India, particularly for leprosy research, which was installed at the Christian Medical College in 1963. He was awarded the American High Award - Damien-Dutton Award in 1993, for his pathbreaking leprosy research inventions, by American President Bill Clinton. William (Vilavancode MLA)
William was an Indian politician and former Member of the Legislative Assembly from Palliyadi. He was elected twice to Travancore-Cochin assembly and three times to Madras State assembly. He was elected as a Member of Legislative assembly to Travancore-Cochin Legislative Assembly in 1952 election from Arumana constituency as a Tamil Nadu Congress candidate. He was elected again as a Tamil Nadu Congress candidate from Vilavancode constituency in 1954 election to Travancore-Cochin assembly. Kanniyakumari District
Kanniyakumari district is one of the 38 districts in Tamil Nadu state and the southernmost district in mainland India. It stands second in terms of population density among the districts of Tamil Nadu. It is also the richest district in Tamil Nadu in terms of per capita income, and also tops the state in Human Development Index (HDI), literacy, and education. The district's headquarters is Nagercoil. Kanniyakumari district has a varied topography with the sea on three sides and the mountains of the Western Ghats bordering the northern side. Gunamudian David Boaz
Gunamudian David Boaz (31 March 1908 – 8 July 1965) was the first Indian psychologist. He received his PhD from The University of Oxford in 1935, and graduated from Scott Christian College. The department of Psychology was instituted at the University of Madras in 1943 by him under the influence of Nobel laureate, Sir C. V. Raman and G.N. Ramachandran. The "Journal of The Madras University" states that Boaz joined the department on 27 September 1943 and on 27 October 1943, he became the Senior Lecturer in Psychology. In 1948, a full-fledged Psychology department was organized under the headship of Boaz. The department concentrated exclusively on children and their education first. He was credited for making India a major contributor in the field on Psychology.
