Palestine Investment Conference
The Palestine Investment Conference (PIC) is aimed at strengthening the economy of State of Palestine, Palestine and supporting a future Palestinian state. It took place in the Bethlehem Convention Palace, Convention Palace Bethlehem in 2008 and 2010. The conference was hosted in 2008 by Palestinian prime minister Salam Fayyad and in 2010 by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas. It was attended by the official envoy of the Quartet on the Middle East, Tony Blair. In 2010, the U.S. delegation was led by the Special Envoy for Middle East Peace George J. Mitchell. The 2008 conference was focused on large development initiatives. One outcome is the planned city of Rawabi. The 2010 conference focused on small and medium enterprises. Bethlehem Convention Palace
Bethlehem Convention Palace or Convention Palace Company (CPC; ar, قصر المؤتمرات بيت لحم) is a convention center facility in Bethlehem, State of Palestine, Palestine. The building includes a main meeting hall, exhibition gallery, theatre, meeting rooms, gardens, interfaith prayer room and cafeteria. There is also a large amphitheater that can host nearly 1,500 people., Neighboring landmarks are Qal'at Murad (Murad's Castle) and Solomon's Pools. Bethlehem
Bethlehem (; ar, بيت لحم ; he, בֵּית לֶחֶם '' '') is a city in the central West Bank, Palestine, about south of Jerusalem. Its population is approximately 25,000,Amara, 1999p. 18.Brynen, 2000p. 202. and it is the capital of the Bethlehem Governorate of the State of Palestine. The economy is primarily tourist-driven, peaking during the Christmas season, when Christians make pilgrimage to the Church of the Nativity. The important holy site of Rachel's Tomb is at the northern entrance of Bethlehem, though not freely accessible to the city's own inhabitants and in general Palestinians living in the Israeli-occupied West Bank due to the Israeli West Bank barrier. Salam Fayyad
Salam Fayyad ( ar, سلام فياض, ; born 1951 or 12 April 1952) is a Jordanian-Palestinian politician and former Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority and Finance Minister. He was Finance Minister from June 2002 to November 2005 and from March 2007 to May 2012. Fayyad was Prime Minister between June 2007 and June 2013. Fayyad resigned from the cabinet in November 2005 to run as founder and leader of the new Third Way party for the legislative elections of 2006. The party was not successful, and Fayyad returned as Finance Minister in the March 2007 Unity Government. Fayyad's first appointment as Prime Minister on 15 June 2007, which was justified by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas on the basis of "national emergency", was not confirmed by the Palestinian Legislative Council. Adam Hanieh
Adam Hanieh is a development studies academic based in the United Kingdom. He is Professor in Development Studies at SOAS, University of London, a founding member of the SOAS Centre for Palestine Studies, and a former member of the Council for British Research in the Levant. He is noted for his research on Marxism, the political economy of the Middle East, labour migration, class and state formation in the Gulf Cooperation Council, and Palestine studies. From 1997 to 2003, Hanieh lived in Palestine, where he completed an MA in Regional Studies at Al Quds University. Hanieh holds a PhD in political science from York University in Canada and previously taught at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates before joining SOAS in London. Mahmoud Abbas ( ar, مَحْمُود عَبَّاس, Maḥmūd ʿAbbās; born 15 November 1935), also known by the kunya Abu Mazen ( ar, أَبُو مَازِن, links=no, ), is the president of the State of Palestine and the Palestinian National Authority. Quartet On The Middle East
The Quartet on the Middle East or Middle East Quartet, sometimes called the Diplomatic Quartet or Madrid Quartet or simply the Quartet, is a foursome of nations and international and supranational entities involved in mediating the Israeli–Palestinian peace process. The Quartet comprises the United Nations, the United States, the European Union, and Russia. The group was established in Madrid in 2002, recalling Madrid Conference of 1991, as a result of the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
