Palazzo Cirino, Nicosia
The Palazzo Cirino is a palace in the historic town center in Nicosia, region of Sicily, Italy. The three story palace was begun in the 18th-century, commissioned by Graziano Cirino, and completed by the beginning of the 19th-century. It was refurbished in 1850 by Luigi Cirino. The ground floor has rusticated stone decoration. The upper floors are articulated with pilasters and arches and ringed toward the street with metal balconies. The piano nobile is a private law firm, the ceiling of the main salon was frescoed with the Judgement of Paris by Natale Attanasio Natale Attanasio (1845 – 1923) was an Italian painter. Nicosia (; Gallo-Italic of Sicily: ; scn, Nicusìa) is a Town and ''comune'' of the province of Enna in Sicily, southern Italy. It is located at 720 m above the sea level, on a rocky massive culminating in four imposing hills. The origin of Nicosia is uncertain. Nicosia and Troina are the northernmost towns in the province of Enna . The vicinity was traditionally made up of salt mines and arable lands. History Engio, Erbita and Imachara are the three cities of antiquity with which historians have attempted to identify Nicosia with, but there is no evidence that the mentioned towns are in fact Nicosia. The present name of the town suggests Greek Origins: it is believed to get its name from Saint Nicholas (), who together with San Felix are the Patrons of the Town, . Natale Attanasio (1845 – 1923) was an Italian painter. He painted diverse subjects from period pieces, Oriental fantasies, altarpieces, portraits, and genre works, and worked both in fresco and oil. Biography In 1874, Attanasio won a stipend from his native Catania to study in Naples at the Institute of Fine Arts under Domenico Morelli, and then moved to Rome. His painting ''Sunt lacrimae rerum.
