Jean Durand (1882–1946) was a French screenwriter and film director of the silent era.Rège p.349 He was extremely prolific, working on well over two hundred films. José Padilla Sánchez (28 May 1889 in Almería – 25 October 1960 in Madrid), popularly known as Maestro Padilla was a famous Spanish composer and pianist. He was best known for the songs ''La Violetera'' and ''El Relicario'', popularized by cuplé singer Raquel Meller, and the pasodoble ''Valencia'' He became famous in France as he composed songs for the Moulin Rouge, like ''Ça c'est Paris''. ''La Violetera'' was adapted by Charlie Chaplin for the soundtrack of ''City Lights'' (1931). Biography José Padilla Sánchez was born in Almería in 1889. He took his first music lessons from Almería´s Municipal Band director and at fourteen he produced his first written music sheet titled L''as dos palomas''. By the time he lived in Madrid, he attended the Real Conservatorio de Música y Declamación. Norka Rouskaya
Norka Rouskaya (born Delia Franciscus in 1899) was a Swiss eccentric dancer and actress. Her mother was named Mercedes Franciscus. Rousaya was born in 1899 in the Canton of Ticino. She trained as a dancer and performed in major theaters in France and Italy. On 5 November 1917 Rouskaya, accompanied by her mother and several local men, including the author José Carlos Marategui, performed an interpretive dance to Chopin's ''Funeral March'' in the Cementerio Presbítero Matías Maestro in Lima, Peru. The performance was deemed inappropriate and caused a scandal in Lima society. She was arrested upon her return to the Maury Hotel, where she had been staying, and was taken to the Convent of St. Thomas with her mother, where the women's prison was operated. She was held in the convent under the care of Dominican nuns. She was released from prison on 7 November 1917.
