Palacegarden Malachy
GCH Palacegarden Malachy (24 January 2008 – 24 November 2017), also known as Malachy, was a male Pekingese who was named Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2012 after reaching the Best in Show round in 2011. He was also the second ranked dog in the United States in 2011. Show career Malachy won his Best of Breed category for the first time in 2011. He went on to win the Toy Group as well, qualifying for the Best in Show round. However he lost out on the Best in Show title to Scottish Deerhound Foxcliffe Hickory Wind. Entering Westminster once more in 2012, he again won both his breed and the Toy Group (the runner up, an Affenpinscher named Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, was also the 2011 runner-up for the Toy Group, but would become famous as the following year's Best in Show). Pekingese
The Pekingese (also spelled Pekinese) is a breed of toy dog, originating in China. The breed was favored by royalty of the Chinese Imperial court as a companion dog, and its name refers to the city of Peking (Beijing) where the Forbidden City is located. The breed has several characteristics and health issues related to its unique appearance. Because of its desirable characteristics, the Pekingese has been part of the development of designer crossbreeds, such as the Peekapoo (crossed with a poodle) and Peke-a-tese (crossed with a Maltese). The title of "Best in Show" is given to the dog chosen as the winner of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show according to conformation show rules. The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is an all-breed conformation show, traditionally held annually at New York City's Madison Square Garden. The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is one of a handful of benched shows in the United States. Dogs are required to be on display in their assigned locations (show benches) during the entire show except when shown in the ring, groomed for showtime, or taken outside for elimination. This type of presentation allows spectators and breeders alike to have an opportunity of seeing all the entered dogs. Foxcliffe Hickory Wind
GCH Foxcliffe Hickory Wind (December 20, 2005 – June 13, 2017), also known as Hickory, is a female Scottish Deerhound who was named Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2011. She is the first of her breed to have won the title. Biography GCH Foxcliffe Hickory Wind was named after a song written by Gram Parsons and Bob Buchanan. She was owned by Sally Sweatt, along with her breeder, Cecilia Dove, and her husband Scott. During 2010, she was ranked fifth out of all American dogs in the Hound Group. Following her victory at Westminster, she retired from show competition. Her owners made plans to breed her in 2011 and move her permanently to her breeder's farm in Flint Hill, Virginia. Speaking of Hickory's retirement, her handler Angela Lloyd said, "She's a wonderful dog to live with. I’m going to miss the nose nudge in the middle of the night." Scottish Deerhound
The Scottish Deerhound, or simply the Deerhound, is a large breed of sighthound, once bred to hunt the red deer by coursing. In outward appearance, the Scottish Deerhound is similar to the Greyhound, but larger and more heavily boned with a rough-coat. History The Hilton of Cadboll Stone dates from around 1,200 years ago, and depicts at the bottom of the panel a deer that is being chased by two large dogs and two armed horsemen. However, systematic zooarchaeology and genetics have yet to show any connection between those symbolic representations of dog types and the modern breed, which only became widely known as the ''Scottish Deerhound'' related to English regional greyhounds, such as the Highland greyhound in the early 19th century. GCH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, also known as Joe, is a year old toy Affenpinscher that won Best In Show at the 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on February 12, 2013. Banana Joe was the first of his breed to win Best in Show at Madison Square Garden. This was his last show, and following it Joe went home to the Netherlands to be with his owner Mieke Cooijmans. Biography The Affenpinscher Banana Joe V Tani Kazari was born on March 30, 2007. He was sired by Kyleakin Space Cowboy to Bling Bling V Tani Kazari. He was bred by Mieke Cooymans, and co-owned by Cooymans and Zoila Truesdale. Joe has been taught commands in English, Dutch, Spanish and German. The Affenpinscher, also known as the Monkey Terrier, is a terrier-like toy Pinscher breed of dog. History The breed is German in origin and dates back to the seventeenth century. A Troll Doll (Danish: ''Gjøltrold'') is a type of plastic doll with furry up-combed hair depicting a troll, also known as a Dam doll after their creator Danish woodcutter Thomas Dam. The inspiration came from trolls in old Scandinavian folklore. The toys are also known as good luck trolls, or gonk trolls in the United Kingdom. The dolls were first created in the late 1950's, and introduced in 1959, before becoming one of the United States' biggest toy fads in the early 1960s.
