Pala ( ar, بالا) is a town in Chad and the capital of the region of Mayo-Kebbi Ouest. The Fula language is spoken in the area. The Roman Catholic bishopric of Pala served Mayo-Kebbi Prefecture, in 1970, Pala included 116,000 of Chad's 160,000 Catholics. It has the country's first gold mine, opened by the South Korean company Afko. However, cotton picking is the main industry in the area. The town is served by Pala Airport. The President's Challenge (also called Presidential Champions) was an American program promulgated by the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition that aimed to encourage all Americans to "make being active part of their everyday lives" and to be physically fit. The President's Challenge was introduced by Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966. It was designed to help motivate participants (international participants also eligible) to improve regardless of activity and fitness level. Pala (folk Art)
Pala is a cultural folk ballad form of Odisha, mix of Sanskrit & Odia literature. It is a group of five or six persons, who performs this art. The group consists of a 'Gayaka' (Main singer), a 'Bayaka' (drummer) and others are Palia (Chorus). The Gayaka has a 'Chamara' (fly whisker) in his hand, which he wieds with extreme flourish and a pair of cymbals in his right hand. He narrates episodes from puranic texts, punctuated with explanations. The chorus dance in very small with rhythmical steps along with Gayaka. Origin Pala is found in Sarala Das's ''Mahabharata''. It might have come to light when the Odia and Bengali culture blended into unity during Chaitanya's visit to Orissa in 1510 CE.
