Iqbal Bano
Iqbal Bano ( ur, ; born 1928 in Delhi – died 21 April 2009 in Lahore) was a ghazal singer from Pakistan. She was known for her semi-classical Urdu ghazal songs and classical thumris, but also sang easy-listening numbers in the 1950s films. Iqbal Bano's prominent work includes her singing of ghazals of the great Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz. In 1974, she became the recipient of the Pride of Performance award. She worn a black saree in Lahore against Zia, for trying to ban saree’s ( The sari had been banned by the country's military dictator, General Zia ul Haq in his efforts at Islamising Pakistani society). Iqbal went against his words and went on stage in Lahore with a black saree and sang "Hum dekhenge". A lot of women started to wear a saree which where Zia got angry. Ghulam Ahmed Chishti
Ghulam Ahmed Chishti ( Punjabi, ur, ), (often abbreviated to G.A. Chishti) ( Punjabi, ur, ), (17 August 1905 – 25 December 1994) was a Pakistani music composer, attributed as being one of the founders of Indian and Pakistani film music. He is also sometimes referred to as ''Baba Chishti''. Working with filmi music, Chishti excelled at Punjabi compositions and was 'apt at weaving the design of influences around Punjabi music'. With almost 5,000 tunes to his credit, he composed scores for 140 – 150 films and was the first musician to reach the '100 films' threshold in newly independent Pakistan after 1947. Being a poet, he had written lyrics for 12 of the most popular Pakistani film songs besides writing hundreds of other film songs during his career. ''Sassi'' is a 1954 Pakistani romance film directed by Dawood Chand and produced by J.C. Anand under banner Eveready Pictures. It was a remake of the director's own ''Sassi Punnu'' (1939) which was based on the legend of the same name. Sabiha played the titular role in the film opposite Sudhir, while Asha Posley, Nazar and Ghulam Mohammad were in pivotal roles. The musical socre of the film was composed by G. A. Chishti. ''Sassi'' was a commercially successful film, and is recognised as the first golden jubilee hit film of the Pakistani cinema. Plot summary The plot is based on ''Sassui Punnhun'', one of the four popular tragic romances of the Punjab. It revolves around Sassi who faces hardships and difficulties while seeking his beloved husband who was separated from her by the rivals. Syed Musa Abbas Raza, ( ur, ; 25 December 1925 – 11 June 1982) better known as Santosh Kumar ( ur, ), was a Pakistani film actor who was popular in the 1950s and 1960s. He was from an Urdu-speaking family from Lahore, Pakistan. His brother Darpan was also a film actor during the same period, while his other brother S. Suleman was a film director. Early life and career Santosh Kumar's birth name was Syed Musa Raza. He was born in 1925 in Lahore, British India. He graduated from Osmania University, Hyderabad, British India. After the Partition of India in 1947, Santosh Kumar migrated to Lahore, Pakistan with his family. Owing to his education and awareness, Santosh Kumar was always designated to lead the entourage to represent Pakistan in meetings held abroad, and because of this became known as the foreign minister of the Pakistani film industry. Sabira Begum better known as Asha Posley ( Punjabi, ur, ) (1927 – 25 March 1998) was the first heroine of Pakistani films. Early life Asha Posley was born as Sabira Begum in Patiala, Punjab, British India in 1927. Asha Posley was the daughter of music composer Inayat Ali Nath, who worked with HMV in Delhi, and the sister of renowned film playback singer Kausar Parveen and another sister Rani Kiran.
