Painted (Narrows Album)
''Painted'' is the second studio album by the international rock band Narrows. The album was released on February 28, 2012 through Deathwish Inc. To promote ''Painted'', prior to its release Narrows previewed the tracks "Under the Guillotine" and "Absolute Betrayer". A music video was also made for the song "TB Positive". In 2011, Narrows guitarist Jodie Cox, who lives in England, was denied access to the United States. Cox's guitar parts were recorded by Wayne Pennell at Bunker Studios in Brentford, England and sent to the rest of the band over the internet. Matt Bayles tracked the rest of the album at Red Room Studio in Seattle, Washington. Cox described the process, which involved communicating with the rest of the band through the online video service Skype, as being "a frustrating and challenging experience." Narrows is an American mathcore band based in Seattle, but with members "spread out across both the United States and two continents." The band has been described as a supergroup, as its lineup includes Dave Verellen of Botch and members of bands including Unbroken, These Arms Are Snakes and Bullet Union. Narrows is a part-time band. All members have full-time jobs and are starting their own families. The overwhelming majority of records manufactured have been of certain sizes (7, 10, or 12 inches), playback speeds (33, 45, or 78 RPM), and appearance (round black discs). ''Rock Sound'' is a British magazine that covers rock music. The magazine aims at being more "underground" and less commercial, while also giving coverage to better-known acts. It generally focuses on pop punk, post-hardcore, metalcore, punk, emo, hardcore, heavy metal and extreme metal genres of rock music, rarely covering indie rock music at all. The tag-line "For those who like their music loud, extreme and non-conformist" is sometimes used. ''The L Magazine'' was a free bi-weekly magazine in New York City featuring investigative articles, arts and culture commentary, and event listings. It was available through distribution in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Hoboken. History ''The L Magazine'' was created in 2003 by brothers Scott and Daniel Stedman and editor Jonny Diamond in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Harkonen (band)
Harkonen was an American post-hardcore band from Tacoma, Washington, most active between 1997 and 2005. History Harkonen began around 1997 originally as a five-piece that played noisy hardcore similar to artists such as Deadguy and Kiss It Goodbye. Their formative years were tumultuous and keeping a steady line-up proved difficult. After recording their self-titled single in 1997, the band were reduced to a four-piece following the departure of guitarist Chris Vancourt and vocalist Mike Jones, and it marked the addition of vocalist Aaron Connell (formerly of Grip and Christ and later went on to found Himsa and Iamthethorn). Shortly after releasing their single "Hung to Dry", vocalist Aaron Connell and short-lived guitarist Niehl Brady departed, leaving the band a three-piece, with Ben and Bill taking on the vocal role. Benjamin James Verellen is an American musician and audio engineer from Tacoma, Washington. Career Musician Verellen's first role was as bassist of the Tacoma post-hardcore/noise rock group Harkonen which formed in 1995. Harkonen released their debut album in 1999 through Wreck-Age before signing to Hydra Head Records in 2001. The group's final release was ''Like a Virgin''—a split release with These Arms Are Snakes— before disbanding in 2005. He formed the country music/folk rock band Roy as a side project in 2002 with his brother Dave Verellen and Brian Cook. The group released two studio albums and a few EPs and has been inactive since 2006. Verellen performed additional bass on These Arms Are Snakes' debut album ''Oxeneers or the Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home'', and was also briefly a touring drummer in 2005 until he abruptly quit without explanation and was quickly replaced by Chris Common. Roy (band)
Roy was an American folk and indie rock band. They were formed in 2002 in Tacoma, Washington. Background The group is composed of drummer Dave Verellen and guitarist Brian Cook from the then recently disbanded mathcore group Botch (the latter of which was also in These Arms are Snakes). Roy also features Dave Verellen's brother Ben Verellen of Harkonen on guitar and bassist Mike Cooper. After independently releasing three EPs, Roy signed to Fueled by Ramen and released their Matt Bayles-produced debut studio album ''Big City Sin and Small Town Redemption'' in 2004. In support of the album, Roy toured the US with The Weakerthans. Dave Verellen is an American singer. He grew up in Tacoma, Washington, and was the vocalist for the influential mathcore band Botch.
