Paint Creek is a tributary of the Scioto River, long,Ohio Department of Natural Resources''A Guide to Ohio Streams.'' in south-central Ohio in the United States. Via the Scioto and Ohio Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River. It drains an area of . Paint Creek rises in southwestern Madison County and flows initially south-southeastwardly through Fayette County and along the boundaries of Highland and Ross Counties, past the towns of Washington Court House and Greenfield. Downstream of Greenfield, a dam causes the stream to form Paint Creek Lake, part of Paint Creek State Park. Greenfield, Ohio
Greenfield is a large village in Highland and Ross counties, Ohio, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,639. Since the population declined to under 5,000, the Census Bureau may still call it a city, but by Ohio's laws it is technically deemed a village. Greenfield is most well known because of its rich history, including its community members helping in the underground railroad, new industries, and McClain High School. History Greenfield was named for its rural appearance. General Duncan McArthur founded the town in 1799. Greenfield has had many innovators, such as Edward Lee McClain who was well known for his detachable horse collar. The American Pad and Textile Company was created by McClain later in life. This company provided job opportunities for Greenfield, and created products such as the life vest used in World War II. Paint Creek State Park
Paint Creek State Park is a public recreation area located in Highland and Ross counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. The state park's central feature is a reservoir, Paint Creek Lake, which was created by the damming of Paint Creek. Construction on the dam started in 1967, and Paint Creek State Park was opened in 1972. The underlying geology of the park is limestone, and significant limestone bluffs may be seen, and hiked to, just below the dam.
