Anant Pai (17 September 1929 – 24 February 2011), popularly known as Uncle Pai, was an Indian educationalist and a pioneer in Indian comics. He is most famous as the creator of two comic book series viz. ''Amar Chitra Katha'', which retold traditional Indian folk tales, mythological stories, and biographies of historical characters; and ''Tinkle'', a children's anthology. The Indian cricket team touring England and the British Isles in the summer of 1911 was the first all-Indian team to tour the country. Mukundrao Damodar Pai (21 June 18835 August 1948) was an Indian cricketer and a member of the first Indian team that toured England in 1911 under the captaincy of Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. Pai was the first Indian cricketer to score a century on his first-class debut, playing for the Hindus against the Europeans in the Bombay Presidency game in 1906. In a career spanning 15 years, he played a total of 22 first-class matches scoring 640 runs before retiring as a captain of the Hindus cricket team in 1920. Laxman Pai
Laxman Pai (21 January 1926 – 14 March 2021) was an Indian artist and painter. He was a principal of the Goa College of Art, a post he held from 1977 to 1987. Pai was a recipient of several awards including India's third highest civilian honour of ''Padma Bhushan'', awarded by the Government of India. Early life Pai was born in a Gaud Saraswat Brahmin family in Margao, Goa, on 21 January 1926. His tryst with art was at his uncle's Mauzo Photo Studio in Margao, where he used to touch up the black and white photographs with paint. In the 1940s, he was actively involved in the Goa liberation movement for which he was arrested thrice by the Portuguese colonials.
