Pagal (film)
''Pagal '' is a 1940 Indian Hindi-language film. It was the fourth highest grossing Indian film of 1940. The psycho-social melodrama was directed by A. R. Kardar for Ranjit Movietone. Kardar also wrote the dialogues and story (with Kamal Amrohi) for the film. Khemchand Prakash composed the music with lyrics written by D. N. Madhok. The film's protagonist was Prithviraj Kapoor playing a doctor with psychological problems, working in a "lunatic asylum". The rest of the cast included Madhuri, Sitara Devi, Noor Mohammed Charlie, Khatoon, Trilok Kapoor and Sunalini Devi. The film involves a doctor who loves a girl, but marries her sister due to an unfortunate coincidence. His treatment of his wife and the girl he loves, and his own eventual deterioration into insanity forms the basis of story. ''Pagal'' ( ne, पागल, translation=The Lunatic) is a 1953 poem by Nepalese writer Laxmi Prasad Devkota. In 1939, Devkota's brothers admitted him to a mental hospital in Ranchi, British India where he stayed at the hospital for five months. ''Pagal'' was published in 1953 and it was translated to English as ''The Lunatic'' by Laxmi Prasad Devkota in 1956. Ahmed Shareef ( ur, احمد شريف ), (19 May 1941 – 2007), popularly known as Pagal Adilabadi ( ur, احمد شريف پاگل عادل آبادى), was an Urdu poet from Adilabad, India. He wrote ''mazahiya shayari'' or humorous poetry in his native dialect of Hyderabadi Urdu. His pen name A pen name, also called a ''nom de plume'' or a literary double, is a pseudonym (or, in some cases, a variant form of a real name) adopted by an author and printed on the title page or by-line of their works in place of their real name.
