Paderborn Hauptbahnhof is the main passenger station in the city of Paderborn in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located on the Hamm–Warburg line, part of the ''Mid-Germany Connection'' from Cologne or Düsseldorf to Thuringia and Saxony. The Senne Railway branches off to Bielefeld in Paderborn. History The railway between Hamm and Paderborn was opened on 1 October 1850 by the Royal Westphalian Railway Company. The line was extended to Warburg in 1853. The Senne Railway was opened in July 1902. The Alme Valley Railway was opened in 1899 towards Büren; it was closed in 1981. Recently there was an attempt to reopen the line to provide a link to Paderborn Lippstadt Airport. Operations Several long-distance trains on InterCity line 50 stop at Paderborn. Paderborn (; Westphalian: ''Patterbuorn'', also ''Paterboärn'') is a city in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, capital of the Paderborn district. The name of the city derives from the river Pader and ''Born'', an old German term for the source of a river. In Germany, Luxembourg and Austria, the Regional-Express (RE, or in Austria: REX) is a type of regional train. It is similar to a semi-fast train, with average speed at about 70–90 km/h (top speed often 160 km/h) as it calls at fewer stations than '' Regionalbahn'' or S-Bahn trains, but stops more often than ''InterCity'' services. Detmold Station
Detmold Station is the main train station of the city of Detmold in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was opened in 1880. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station, and has two platform tracks. The station building was thoroughly renovated in 2006 and 2007. Infrastructure Detmold station is located northwest of the town centre. It is situated on the Herford–Himmighausen railway, which runs generally from the northwest to the southeast. The station building, which was internally modernised and externally restored in 2007, houses several dining establishments, lockers for luggage and a Deutsche Bahn travel centre. Lage () is a town in the Lippe district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, approximatively 8 km northwest of the administrative centre Detmold. It has 35,099 inhabitants (2016). The coat of arms of Lage depicts a farmer's plough. The city is not far from the Teutoburg Forest. Herford–Himmighausen Railway
The Herford–Himmighausen railway is a 48 km-long line from Herford via Detmold to Himmighausen (leading to Altenbeken) and is a single-track and electrified main line. It is located in Ostwestfalen-Lippe in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is part of Deutsche Bahn’s Münster-Ostwestfalen regional network (MOW), which has its headquarters in Münster. Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe is a railway station in the city of Kassel, in the German state of Hesse. It is the city's most important railway station, as it is connected to the Hanover-Würzburg high-speed rail line, with InterCityExpress services calling at the station. Dortmund Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The station's origins lie in a joint station of the Köln-Mindener Eisenbahn and Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn which was built north of the city centre in 1847. That station was replaced by a new station, erected in 1910 at the current site. It featured raised embankments to allow a better flow of traffic. Essen Hauptbahnhof (German for "Essen main station") is a railway station in the city of Essen in western Germany. It is situated south of the old town centre, next to the A 40 motorway.
