Paddy Quinn (American Football)
Patrick George Quinn (August 17, 1888 or May 15, 1890 – May 19, 1951) was an American football back who played two seasons in the National Football League, American Professional Football Association (APFA) for the Rock Island Independents. He also played four seasons with the franchise when they were an independent team. Early life and education Quinn was born on either August 17, 1888 or May 15, 1890, in either Rock Island, Illinois, or Stuart, Iowa. He attended Rock Island High School, and after graduating was "employed as [a] switchman for the Rock Island lines." Professional career In 1916, Quinn started a professional football career with the independent Rock Island Independents. Paddy Quinn (baseball)
Patrick James "Paddy" Quinn (August 1849 – January 2, 1909) was an American Major League Baseball catcher and outfielder during the 1870s. Early life Quinn was born in Chicago in 1849, the son of police officer James Quinn, who was killed in the line of duty in 1853. Quinn played for the amateur club Aetna of Chicago beginning in 1869, at the dawn of the professional era. Professional career Quinn's first professional experience was as a catcher in five games for the 1871 Fort Wayne Kekiongas of the National Association. He hit .235 with an on-base percentage of .381, scored eight runs, drove in two, and stole three bases. Quinn returned to professional baseball in 1875, primarily as a catcher. He led the Keokuk Westerns in batting average (.326) with 14 hits, playing 11 of the 13 games the club completed before it went out of business. Paddy Quinn (Irish Republican)
Patrick Quinn (born 1952) was a volunteer with the 1st Battalion, South Armagh Brigade of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) who took part in the 1981 Irish hunger strike. Paramilitary activity On 2 March 1977, Quinn and Raymond McCreesh were convicted and sentenced to fourteen years in prison for attempted murder, possession of a rifle and ammunition and a further five years for IRA membership. He was interned at HMP Maze, a high-security prison known for housing a significant concentration of IRA and other Irish nationalist prisoners. Quinn would later go on to describe some of the conditions which were experienced by political detainees during the late 1970s, where the only time prisoners would leave their cells would be to attend Sunday Mass. Quinn was at 'the Maze' during the Dirty Protest, designed to protest the 'special category status' faced by paramilitaries at that time.
