Paddy Meegan
Patrick Meegan (1922 – 14 November 2012) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a right corner-forward at senior level for the Meath county team. Meegan made his first appearance for the team during the 1942 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1954 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals, five Leinster medals and two National Football League medals. Meegan was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At club level Meegan was a three-time county championship medalist with Syddan. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Presently, Ulster hold the record for the most football Railway Cup wins with 30, while Munster has won the most hurling titles with 43. Leinster Inter-provincial Gaelic Footballers
Leinster ( ; ga, Laighin or ) is one of the provinces of Ireland, situated in the southeast and east of Ireland. The province comprises the ancient Kingdoms of Meath, Leinster and Osraige. Following the 12th-century Norman invasion of Ireland, the historic "fifths" of Leinster and Meath gradually merged, mainly due to the impact of the Pale, which straddled both, thereby forming the present-day province of Leinster. The ancient kingdoms were shired into a number of counties for administrative and judicial purposes. In later centuries, local government legislation has prompted further sub-division of the historic counties. Leinster has no official function for local-government purposes. Leinster GAA
The Leinster Council is a provincial council of the Gaelic Athletic Association sports of hurling, Gaelic football, camogie, rounders and handball in the province of Leinster. The Leinster Council has been partnered with the European County Board to help develop Gaelic Games in Europe. Leinster Council's main contribution to this goal is the provision of referees. Stephen White (Gaelic Footballer)
Stephen White (1 September 1928 – 6 September 2009) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left wing-back for the Louth senior team. White made his debut on the inter-county scene in 1946 when he linked up with the Galway minor team while attending Mountbellew Agricultural College on a scholarship. That year he played in both the Connacht Minor and Connacht Junior football finals for the Tribesmen. In 1947 he made his senior inter-county debut for Louth. White went on to win an All-Ireland medal in 1957 and four Leinster medals with his county. He was also an All-Ireland runner-up in 1950 and captained Louth during the 1951 season. At club level, White won a Ranafast Cup medal with Cooley Kickhams in 1944. He was also a member of the Kickhams side that defeated Oliver Plunketts in the 1947 Louth Junior Championship final. In team sport, captain is a title given to a member of the team. The title is frequently honorary, but in some cases the captain may have significant responsibility for strategy and teamwork while the game is in progress on the field. In either case, it is a position that indicates honor and respect from one's teammates – recognition as a leader by one's peers. Connacht GAA (Irish: Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Chonnacht) or formally the Connacht Provincial Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association is the governing body for Gaelic games that are played in the province of Connacht, Ireland.
