Paddy Buggy
Paddy Buggy (15 March 1929 – 15 May 2013) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Slieverue and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 1949 until 1960. Buggy later served as the 27th president of the Gaelic Athletic Association from 1982 until 1985. Playing career Club Born in Slieverue, County Kilkenny, Buggy played his club hurling with his local Slieverue club. He won one senior county title with the club in 1954. Inter-county Buggy first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Kilkenny senior team in the late 1940s. He made his championship debut in 1949 and won his first Leinster the following year in 1950. Kilkenny later played Tipperary in an unexciting final which Tipp won by a point. Slieverue GAA
Slieverue GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Slieverue, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club fields teams in hurling and Gaelic football. History Slieverue is one of Kilkenny's oldest clubs, having affiliated in the GAA's foundation year in 1884. The club has operated in the junior ranks for much of its existence, however, it has had some success in the upper tiers. Slieverue's first major success was a Kilkenny IHC title in 1936. The Kilkenny JHC was secured in 1950, a victory which heralded further success over the rest of the decade. Slieverue contested three Kilkenny SHC finals, with the club beating Tullaroan to claim their only title in 1954. John Dowling (sports Administrator)
John Dowling (18 November 1931 – 9 February 2002) was a Gaelic football and hurling referee, who served as the 29th President of the Gaelic Athletic Association, president of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). He was born in Tullamore, County Offaly, and became the first Offaly man to hold that office. Career Dowling refereed five All-Ireland finals, including both hurling and football All-Ireland senior finals in 1960. That year he officiated Down county football team, Down's first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, All-Ireland SFC title win. Dowling refereed Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster finals as well as league finals. Mickey Kelly
Michael Kelly (24 September 1929 – 26 October 2011) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-forward for the Kilkenny senior team from 1952 until 1960. Kelly made his first appearance for the team during the 1952 championship and became a regular player over the next decade. During that time he won one All-Ireland winner's medal and three Leinster winner's medals. He captained Kilkenny to the All-Ireland title in 1957. At club level Kelly enjoyed a successful career with Bennettsbridge, winning seven county club championship winners' medals. Dan Kennedy (hurler, Born 1925)
Daniel Kennedy (1925 – 6 February 1976) was an Irish sportsman. He is best known as a hurler for several teams Thomastown, Dicksboro and Bennettsbridge clubs and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team in the 1940s and 1950s. Dan Kennedy captained Kilkenny in 1947. Playing career Club Kennedy first played hurling with his local Thomastown club and enjoyed some success. In 1946 it was with Thomastown that he won his first county title. Kennedy later joined the Dicksboro club and won a second county medal in 1950, however, it was with the famous Bennettsbridge club that he became really successful. Mick Loftus
Michael Loftus (born 9 August 1929) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer, referee and Gaelic games administrator. His league and championship career at senior level with the Mayo county team lasted four seasons from 1949 until 1953. Early life He first played competitive Gaelic football with St Muredach's College in Ballina. Loftus simultaneously came to prominence with the Crossmolina club at underage levels, before later winning a county senior championship medal with the senior team in 1949. He studied at University College Galway, where he played for the university football team and won three Sigerson Cup medals. Loftus made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he was selected for the Mayo minor team. He enjoyed one championship season with the minor team, however, he ended the year as an All-Ireland runner-up.
