Paddy Brophy
Emo GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Emo, County Laois, Ireland. History The club was founded in the 1950s and club colours are white with a red hoop. Famous players past and present include Gabriel Lawlor, Mick Lawlor and Paddy Brophy. Paddy Brophy, Ger Lawlor and Martin Corcorcan were all members of the famous 1986 League winning panel, Paddy playing with a torn hamstring on that marvellous day. Gabriel Lawlor was manager of the first Laois minor team to win an All-Ireland title, starting the great under-age success of the late nineties and early two thousands. Mick Lawlor and Paul Lawlor were members of the famous 2003 Leinster winning panel with Gabriel Lawlor as selector. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Emo, County Laois
Emo (from the ) is a village in County Laois, Ireland. It is located near Portlaoise on the R422 regional road just off the M7 Dublin–Limerick motorway. History The late 18th century village of Emo originally developed around the gates of Emo Court. The village pub, the New Inn (now called the "Gate House"), dates from the village's foundation, as does the Gothic Catholic Church, which contains the tomb of Aline, Lady Portarlington, with its recumbent effigy by Joseph Boehm. The site for the church was a gift from Lord Portarlington, and the parochial house and lands beside the church were granted by the Earl of Portarlington at a nominal rent. Emo Court was designed in 1790 by architect James Gandon for the first Earl of Portarlington and is a well-known example of the neoclassical style. Mick Lawlor
Michael P. Lawlor is an American politician, criminal justice professor, and lawyer from Connecticut. A Democrat, he served as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 2011, representing the 99th district in East Haven. Lawlor resigned from the legislature on January 4, 2011 to serve in Dan Malloy's administration as undersecretary for criminal justice policy and planning at the Office of Policy and Management. Education Lawlor attended public schools in East Haven and graduated from East Haven High School. He was co-captain of the EHHS football team and was Vice-President of the Senior Class. The Laois Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Portarlington are the title holders (2022) defeating O'Dempsey's in the Final. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Jack Delaney Cup. The winners of the Laois Senior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. Graiguecullen GFC are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from County Laois, Ireland. The club played in Carlow for many years but in 1926 they were suspended. The club then chose to play in Laois and have been doing so ever since. The club were winners of thirteen Carlow Senior Football Championship titles (the last of which was in 1925) and twelve Laois Senior Football Championship titles, the last of which was in 1965. The club won the Laois Intermediate Football Championship in 2007 in their first attempt to bounce straight back up to senior football, after being relegated for the first time in the club's history in 2006. The Laois Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1907. The Heath are the title holders (2022) defeating Arles–Kilcruise in the Final.
