Paco Vidarte
Francisco "Paco" Javier Vidarte Fernández (1 March 1970 – 29 January 2008 in Madrid) was a Spanish philosopher, writer and LGBT activist. Biography After studying philosophy at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (UPC) in Madrid/Spain, as well as psychoanalysis at the Universidad Complutense Madrid), Vidarte became a Doctor of Philosophy at Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in Madrid with his dissertation about Jacques Derrida, on whose thought he later published several works. From the mid-1990s onwards, Paco Vidarte, who was gay, (Spanish) was an active member of the LGBT rights in Spain#LGBT rights movement in Spain, LGBT movement in Spain, and especially Madrid. He was a member of the group "Radical Gai", and later became one of the leading Queer theory, queer theorists in Spain. Comillas Pontifical University Alumni
Comillas is a small township and municipality in the northern reaches of Spain, in the autonomous community of Cantabria. The Marquessate of Comillas, a fiefdom of Spanish nobility, holds ceremonial office in the seat of power at a small castle which overlooks the town. The Comillas Pontifical University was housed here before it moved to Madrid, and the old university buildings are among the finest examples of architecture in the town. Besides this, there are many notable medieval and baroque buildings. From the second half of the 19th century, the Spanish royal family started spending their summers in Comillas, and so did large part of the Spanish nobility, whose many descendants still frequent the town every summer. ''Queer'' is an umbrella term for people who are not heterosexual or cisgender. Originally meaning or , ''queer'' came to be used pejoratively against those with same-sex desires or relationships in the late 19th century. Beginning in the late 1980s, queer activists, such as the members of Queer Nation, began to reclaim the word as a deliberately provocative and politically radical alternative to the more assimilationist branches of the LGBT community. In the 21st century, ''queer'' became increasingly used to describe a broad spectrum of non-normative sexual and/or gender identities and politics.
