Pablo Neruda Award
The Pablo Neruda Award ( es, Premio Pablo Neruda) is a literary award granted annually by the since 1987. It recognizes an author under 40 who is actively writing. It consists of a diploma, a medal, and , which are presented at La Chascona house museum in Santiago. History The creation of the Pablo Neruda Award was announced in July 1987 as part of the commemoration of the 83rd anniversary of the poet's birth. When announcing it, the Pablo Neruda Foundation stipulated that it would be granted annually to a Chilean writer, less than 40 years old, initially endowed with $3,000. This was later increased to $6,000. At first, the award was given to an author for works including poetry, creative prose, and theater. Later the award changed to its current format, as it would be granted only to poets and, according to the Foundation's website, "in practice, was never granted to authors of other genres." Pablo Neruda
Ricardo Eliécer Neftalà Reyes Basoalto (12 July 1904 – 23 September 1973), better known by his pen name and, later, legal name Pablo Neruda (; ), was a Chilean poet-diplomat and politician who won the 1971 Nobel Prize in Literature. Neruda became known as a poet when he was 13 years old, and wrote in a variety of styles, including surrealist poems, historical epics, overtly political manifestos, a prose autobiography, and passionate love poems such as the ones in his collection ''Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair'' (1924). Neruda occupied many diplomatic positions in various countries during his lifetime and served a term as a Senator for the Chilean Communist Party. ''La Segunda'' ( es, The second one) is a Chilean afternoon daily newspaper, owned by El Mercurio SAP. Their tendency is conservative, is the first Chilean newspaper to disclose information that occurred in the morning because it is evening. Its time distribution is from 14:00. La Segunda (initially called ''La Segunda de Las Últimas Noticias'') first appeared as a nightly on July 29, 1931, as an update of the then evening ''Las Últimas Noticias'', due to the overabundance of information originated during the fall of President Carlos Ibáñez del Campo. Gloria Dünkler
Gloria Dünkler (born 1977) is a Chilean writer, and winner of the 2016 Pablo Neruda Award. She is best known for her poetry, although she also collects folktales. Biography Gloria Dünkler was born into a large family of artisans, musicians, and fishermen. She studied Pedagogy in Language and Communication at the University of La Frontera in Temuco, and graduated as a Spanish teacher and a licentiate in education in 2003. Later, in 2009, she qualified as a librarian at the Metropolitan University of Technology in Santiago. The same year of her graduation as a teacher, she self-published her first book of poems, ''Quilaco seducido''. With the second, ''Füchse von Llafenko'' ( es, Zorros de Llafenko, links=no), which was released by Ediciones Tácitas in 2009, she won her first major award, the Academy, given by the Academia Chilena de la Lengua. El Mostrador is a Chilean online newspaper, founded on 1 March 2000. Its current president is Germán Olmedo Acedvedo and its director is Federico Joannon Errázuriz.
