PNDC
The Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) was the name of the Ghanaian government after the People's National Party's elected government was overthrown by Jerry Rawlings, the former head of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council, in a coup d'état on 31 December 1981. He remained in power until 7 January 1993. In a statement, Rawlings said that a "holy war" was necessary due to the PNP's failure to provide effective leadership and the collapse of the national economy and state services. The PNDC was a military dictatorship that induced civilians to participate in governance. Most of its members were civilians. Its policies reflected a revolutionary government that was pragmatic in its approach. The economic objectives of the PNDC were to halt Ghana's economic decay, stabilize the economy, and stimulate economic growth. Jerry Rawlings
Jerry John Rawlings (22 June 194712 November 2020) was a Ghanaian military officer and politician who led the country for a brief period in 1979, and then from 1981 to 2001. He led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana. Rawlings came to power in Ghana as a flight lieutenant of the Ghana Air Force following a coup d'état in 1979. Prior to that, he led an unsuccessful coup attempt against the ruling military government on 15 May 1979, just five weeks before scheduled democratic elections were due to take place. After handing power over to a civilian government, he took back control of the country on 31 December 1981 as the chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC). Kojo Tsikata
Kojo Tsikata (1936 – 20 November 2021) was a Ghanaian military officer and politician, who served as the Head of National Security and Foreign Affairs of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC). He was listed as a retired army captain in the Ghana Army. Early life and education Tsikata was born in 1936. He attended Achimota School for his secondary education. One of his student colleagues was Obed Asamoah who later became the longest serving Minister for Foreign Affairs in Ghana. While there, he was influenced by a recruitment drive to join the Ghana Army after completing his secondary education. Joseph Adjei Buadi
Joseph Kwame Adjei Buadi ( 1946 – 2016 ) was a Ghanaian soldier and politician. He was one of the original members of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) military government which came to power following the overthrow of the Limann government on 31 December 1981. Adjei Buadi was born in 1946 at Nkawie in the Ashanti Region. He enlisted in the Ghana Army in 1963. Adjei Buadi was Chief instructor and second-in-command at the Armed Forces Fire Training School prior to becoming a member of the PNDC. In the PNDC, he was the coordinator for the Armed Forces Defence Committees which had been formed following the 31 December 1981 coup d'état. Paul Victor Obeng
Paul Victor Obeng KSG also known as P. V. Obeng (19 August 1947 – 17 May 2014) was a Ghanaian mechanical engineer and politician. He was the chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology council. In 2010, he was appointed by the President John Atta Mills administration as Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). Until his death, he was the Senior Presidential Adviser at Presidency to President John Dramani Mahama. Joachim Amartey Quaye was a Ghanaian politician. He was found guilty of involvement in the murder of four Ghanaian citizens and executed by a firing squad in 1982. Naa Polku Konkuu Chiiri
Naa Polku Konkuu Chiiri was a Ghanaian teacher, traditional leader and politician. He served as a member of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) military government. Politics Naa Polku Konkuu Chiiri was appointed as a PNDC member in 1982. He was one of many chiefs to be given political positions under the PNDC. Ebo Tawiah
Ebo Tawiah is a Ghanaian unionist and politician. He was a member of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) military government led by Jerry Rawlings which ruled Ghana after the overthrow of the Limann government. Unionist Prior to his involvement in politics, Tawiah was a Trade Unionist. Air Marshal Achilles Harry Kwami Dumashie (4 June 1938 - 20 December 2002), often known as Harry Dumashie, was a Ghanaian soldier. He served as Chief of Air Staff and as Ghanaian Chief of Defence Staff from 1992 to 1996. Early life and education Dumashie was born at Dzelukope in the Volta Region of Ghana.
