''Pledge'' (stylized as ''PL3DGE'') is the fourth studio album by American hip hop recording artist Killer Mike. It was released on May 17, 2011, through SMC Recordings, Grind Time Official, Tree Leaf Records and Grand Hustle Records. The album's production was handled by Tha Bizness, No I.D., Flying Lotus, The Beat Bullies, DJ Speedy, Raz of the Beat Billionaires and Grind Time label-mates Smiff & Cash. The album, which is his third in the ''I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind'' series, was supported by the lead single "Ready Set Go", featuring Grand Hustle label-boss and fellow American rapper T.I. Background Killer Mike had started his recordings for ''Pledge'' in mid-2010 and throughout the beginning of 2011. Michael Santiago Render (born April 20, 1975), better known by his stage name Killer Mike, is an American rapper, actor, and activist. Mike made his debut on Outkast's 2000 LP ''Stankonia'', and later appeared on their Grammy-winning single "The Whole World" from their greatest hits album '' Big Boi and Dre Present... Outkast'' (2001). He has since released five full-length albums as a solo artist. He is the founder of Grind Time Official Records, which he launched through SMC and Fontana Distribution. SMC Recordings
SMC Recordings is an independent hip hop record label established in 2005 in Del Valle, Texas, by Charles Vasquez, Micheal Luna, and Saroj Thapa. SMC primarily signs and distributes established hip hop artists. SMC grew out of a vision that Saroj Thapa had in early 2000s to launch a new kind of record label, one based in his hometown, that would be about hip hop music. Saroj crossed paths with Micheal Luna and Charles Vasquez, and SMC came one step closer to being realized. The Marcy Houses, or The Marcy Projects, is a public housing complex built and operated by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and located in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and is bordered by Flushing, Marcy, Nostrand and Myrtle avenues. The complex was named after William L. Marcy (1786–1857), a lawyer, soldier, and statesman.
