Péter Balázs
Péter Balázs (, born 5 December 1941) is a Hungarian politician who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2010. In addition to his native Hungarian, he speaks English, French, German and Russian. He graduated from Budapest School of Economics in 1963 and worked in the Hungarian government until 1 May 2004, when his country joined the European Union and was appointed to the European Commission with Michel Barnier under Romano Prodi. He became the Hungarian European Commissioner holding the Regional Policy portfolio until the end of the Prodi Commission on 21 November 2004. He was succeeded by László Kovács as the Hungarian Commissioner and Danuta Hübner as Commissioner for regional policy. Balázs became a professor at the International Relations and European Studies Department of the Central European University (CEU), Budapest. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary ( hu, Magyarország külügyminisztere) is a member of the Hungarian cabinet and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The current foreign minister is Péter Szijjártó. The position was called People's Commissar of Foreign Affairs ( hu, külügyi népbiztos) during the Hungarian Soviet Republic in 1919 and Minister besides the King ( hu, a király személye körüli miniszter) between 1848 and 1918, except in 1849 when Hungary declared its independence from the Austrian Empire. László Kovács (politician)
László Kovács (; born 3 July 1939) is a Hungarian politician and diplomat, former European Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union. He was the foreign minister of Hungary twice, from 1994 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2004. He also served as chairman of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) from 1998 to 2004. Studies László Kovács was born in Budapest on 3 July 1939. He finished at Petrik Lajos Technical School of Industrial Chemistry in 1957. From 1957 to 1966 he worked as a chemical technician. He graduated from the Foreign Trade Department of the Karl Marx University of Economics in 1968 and from the College of Politics of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party (MSZMP) in 1980. The Prague European Summit is a platform for a regular high-level strategic debate on the future of the European Union and other European issues.
