Pure Mint Recordings
Pure Mint Recordings is a British independent record label based in London. The label was established in 2004 by Anthony Hall (a dual qualified English and New York lawyer and musician) together with Dashal Beevers, growing out of an earlier incarnation called Mint Source Recordings. In 2003 Mint Source released the critically acclaimed compilation Flowers in the Attic featuring some of Nottingham's rising stars of deep house, including Crazy Penis, Bent – with their remix of the Hall & Oates classic "I Can't Go For That" (which Bent chose to finish their Big Chill set with in 2004), Zoe Johnston (who has written and performed with Faithless), Oz from The DiY Sound System, Heavy Deviance and Neon Heights amongst others. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Indies release rock, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, gospel, reggae, hip hop, and world music. Rob Da Bank
Robert John Gorham (born 24 June 1973 in Portsmouth, Hampshire), known by the pseudonym Rob da Bank, is an English DJ and co-founder of music festivals Bestival, originally on the Isle of Wight and now moved to Lulworth, Dorset and Camp Bestival, also in Lulworth. He presented a show on BBC Radio 1 which focused on promoting new left field music. Examples of artists featured on his show include Tipper, Moloko and a host of unsigned acts. Until September 2006, he and Chris Coco were the presenters of the Blue Room on Radio 1. He hosted the Radio One Music Show on Thursday nights, the content of which was more similar to the music played on his current show. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) is the organisation that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. It is a non-profit members' organisation registered in Switzerland and founded in Italy in 1933 by Francesco Braga. British Phonographic Industry (BPI) is the British recorded music industry's Trade association. It runs the BRIT Awards, the Classic BRIT Awards, National Album Day, is home to the Mercury Prize, and co-owns the Official Charts Company with the Entertainment Retailers Association, and awards UK music sales through the BRIT Certified Awards. Yo! Majesty is an American hip hop group consisting of singer Jwl B and rappers Shunda K and Shon B, produced by UK-based electro group HardfeelingsUK. Yo! Majesty was mentioned as one of the 'Top 11 new bands of 2008' by ''NME'' magazine as well as one of the '25 Most Exciting Bands in America'. Biography Yo! Majesty's current members are Windy Baynham, who goes by Jwl B, Shon Burt, stage name Shon B, and LaShunda Flowers, known as Shunda K. Orbital (band)
Orbital are an English electronic music duo from Otford, Kent, England, consisting of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll. The band's name is taken from Greater London's orbital motorway, the M25, which was central to the early rave scene during the early days of acid house. Additionally, the cover art on three of their albums showcase stylised atomic orbitals. Orbital have been critically and commercially successful, known particularly for their live improvisation during shows. They were initially influenced by early electro and punk rock. Career Early years In 1989, Orbital recorded " Chime" on their father's 4 track tape deck, which they released on Oh Zone Records in December 1989 and re-released on FFRR Records a few months later. Breakbeats
Breakbeat is a broad type of electronic music that tends to use drum breaks sampled from early recordings of funk, jazz, and R&B. Breakbeats have been used in styles such as hip hop, jungle, drum and bass, big beat, breakbeat hardcore, and UK garage styles (including 2-step, breakstep and dubstep). Margo Guryan
Margo Guryan (September 20, 1937 – November 8, 2021) was an American songwriter, singer, musician and lyricist. As a songwriter, her work was first recorded in 1958, although it was for her 1960s song " Sunday Mornin'", a hit for both Spanky and Our Gang and Oliver, that she is perhaps best known. Her songs have also been recorded by Cass Elliot, Glen Campbell and Astrud Gilberto, among others. As a performer, she is best known for her 1968 album '' Take a Picture'', the sole album release in the initial phase of her career. The album was re-released in 2000, and followed by a compilation entitled ''25 Demos'' (2001). Political satire is satire that specializes in gaining entertainment from politics; it has also been used with subversive intent where Political discourse analysis, political speech and dissent are forbidden by a regime, as a method of advancing political arguments where such arguments are expressly forbidden. Political satire is usually distinguished from political protest or political dissent, as it does not necessarily carry an agenda nor seek to influence the political process. Elevator Suite
Elevator Suite is a three piece electronic pop group. They were formed in January 1999 by the English DJ Andy Childs, his friend DJ Paul "Robbo" Roberts, and Steve Grainger, who was working as a record producer of a small recording studio in Totnes, Devon. The group uses a mixture of rock, jazz and house. Their first single was "Man in a Towel" which gained popularity in the UK and was followed by two more songs ("Barefoot" and "Weekend Wonderboy"). Their first two singles were both crowned as BBC Radio 1’s 'Record of the Week', and thereafter they toured Europe in support of Morcheeba. Gay Dad were an English rock band that formed in London in 1994 and broke up in 2002. The line-up of the band has included Cliff Jones (guitarist/vocalist), Nick "Baz" Crowe (drummer), James Riseboro (keyboardist), Nigel Hoyle (bassist) and Charley Stone.
