Purbasthali Assembly constituency was an assembly constituency in what is now Purba Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Election results 1977 - 2006 Subrata Bhowal of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M)) won the Purbasthali Assembly seat in 2006 and 2001 defeating his nearest rival Ansar Mondal of Trinamool Congress. In 1996, Himangshu Dutta of CPI (M) defeated Ansar Mondal of Indian National Congress. In 1991, 1987, 1982 and 1977, Manoranjan Nath of CPI (M) won the seat defeating Swapan Bhattacharya of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mukul Bhattacharya of Congress, Manabendra Kumar Roy of Congress and Rama Devi of Janata Party, in the respective years. 1951-1972 In 1972, Nurunessa Sattar of Congress won the Purbasthali assembly seat. The Janata Party ( JP, lit. ''People's Party'') was a political party that was founded as an amalgam of Indian political parties opposed to the Emergency that was imposed between 1975 and 1977 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of the Indian National Congress. Monteswar is a community development block that forms an administrative division in Kalna subdivision of Purba Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. History Administrative set up When subdivisions were first formed by the British in 1860, Manteswar was one of the police stations of Kalna subdivision. It is also mentioned in Peterson's ''District Gazetteer'' of 1910. Movements In the wake of the movements against the partition of Bengal in 1905, Bandhab Samitis or Mahamaya Samitis were formed at Kalna, Manteswar and Purbasthali for physical training and revolutionary activities. Kalna, India
Kalna or Ambika Kalna is a town in the Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal, India. It is the headquarters of the Kalna subdivision, situated on the western bank of the Hooghly River, Bhāgirathi river. The town is more popularly known as Ambika Kalna, named after the goddess Kali, Ambika (Jainism), Maa Ambika. Purbasthali is a village with a police station and a rail station in Purbasthali II CD block in Kalna subdivision of Purba Bardhaman district. It is located 120 km north from Kolkata. Also known as Chupi Char, it lies on the banks of a large oxbow lake created by the Ganges river and is only 8 km from the old and holy town of Nabadwip.
