Puqueldón
Puqueldón is Chilean commune in Chiloé Archipelago which is part of Chiloé Province and Los Lagos Region. The commune is located on Lemuy Island and consists of eight villages the biggest of which is Puqueldón. Puqueldón was one of the towns to receive the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundations scholarship in 2002. History Puqueldón which gained town ("Villa") status at the end of the 18th century was mentioned as Pucolón in a document written in 1776.Juan Mancilla Pérez: ''Pueblos de Chiloé'', p. 54. Castro 2008 The place is known for the strong faith of its people. Contemporary Spanish documents speak of a chapel here in 1785 and of a rustic village in 1787. Chiloé Province
Chiloé Province ( es, Provincia de Chiloé) is one of the four provinces in the southern Chilean region of Los Lagos (X). Church Of Detif
The Church of Detif — es, Iglesia de Detif— is a Catholic church located in the town of Detif, commune of Puqueldón, on Lemuy Island, Chiloé Archipelago, southern Chile. The Church of Detif was declared a National Monument of Chile in 1999 and is one of the 16 Churches of Chiloé that were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites on 30 November 2000. The patron saint of the church is Our Lady of Lourdes, whose feast day is celebrated on March 25. This church belongs to the parish of San Pedro Nolasco, Puqueldón, one of the 24 parishes that form the Diocese of Ancud. History The first chapel in Detif was built in 1734. The current church was built in the town center, close to the beach, at the beginning of the 19th century. Lemuy Island
Lemuy Island is an island in Chiloé Archipelago, Chile, off the eastern coast of Chiloé Island. There are nine villages on the island.
