Pieter Bleeker
Pieter Bleeker (10 July 1819 – 24 January 1878) was a Dutch medical doctor, ichthyologist, and herpetologist. He was famous for the ''Atlas Ichthyologique des Indes Orientales Néêrlandaises'', his monumental work on the fishes of East Asia published between 1862 and 1877. Life and work Bleeker was born on 10 July 1819 in Zaandam. He was employed as a medical officer in the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army from 1842 to 1860, (in French). stationed in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). During that time, he did most of his ichthyology work, besides his duties in the army. He acquired many of his specimens from local fishermen, but he also built up an extended network of contacts who would send him specimens from various government outposts throughout the islands. During his time in Indonesia, he collected well over 12,000 specimens, many of which currently reside at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden. Bleeker corresponded with Auguste Duméril of Paris. His wor ...

Pseudoplesiopinae
Pseudoplesiopinae is a subfamily of the family Pseudochromidae, the dottybacks, it consists of small species of coral-reef inhabiting fish which are distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific. Characteristics Workers have established that this subfamily is monophyletic. They have a pelvic fin which has a single spine and three or four unbranched soft rays, their heads are covered in scales, most of the rays in their dorsal fins are simple, they have teeth on the palatine bone; their pectoral fins have 17–19 rays and the lateral line has one anterior-pored scale. Genera The following genera are included in the subfamily Pseudoplesiopinae: * ''Amsichthys'' A.C. Gill & A.J. Edwards, 1999 * ''Chlidichthys'' J.L.B. Smith, 1953 * ''Lubbockichthys'' A.C. Gill & A.J. Edwards, 1999 * ''Pectinochromis'' A.C. Gill & A.J. Edwards, 1999 * ''Pseudoplesiops'' Bleeker Bleeker is a Dutch occupational surname. Pseudoplesiops Wassi
''Pseudoplesiops wassi'', the fleckfin dottyback or Wass's dottyback, is a species of dottyback fish. It is found associated with coral reefs and other rocky coastal habitats in a large part of the south-western Pacific including the Great Barrier Reef, the Coral Sea, the Caroline Islands, the Bismarck Archipelago, Vanuatu, Fiji, Rotuma, Tonga, Samoa, and the Solomon Islands. The specific name honours the fisheries biologist Richard C. Wass. This rather variable but always brilliantly coloured species shares with '' Pseudoplesiops collare'' a higher number (14) of precaudal vertebrae than other members of the genus and differs markedly from that species in colour, having prominent blue spots at the base of the dorsal and anal fins. ''Pseudoplesiops wassi'' grows to around 30 mm standard length Fish measurement is the measuring of individual fish and various parts of their anatomies. These data are used in many areas of ichthyology, including taxonomy and fisheries biol ...

Dottyback
The dottybacks are a family, Pseudochromidae, of fishes which were formerly classified in the order Perciformes, but this has been revised and the family is regarded as of uncertain affinities, or ''incertae sedis'' within the Ovalentaria, a clade within the Percomorpha. Around 152 species belong to this family. They are found in the tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific, where most inhabit coral reefs. Many species are brightly coloured fish, often showing striking sexual dimorphism. They are generally small, mostly less than in length, and some less than . The largest by far, at up to , is '' Congrogadus subducens''.Lieske, E., and Myers, R. (1999). Coral Reef Fishes. 2nd edition. Princeton University Press. Dottybacks are distinguished from other families by the presence of three or less spines in the dorsal fin and an incomplete lateral line organ. Several of the brightly coloured members of the family are often seen in the marine aquarium trade, although some species a ...
