Prytanée Militaire De Libreville
The Prytanée militaire de Libreville (PML) is the Gabonese military academy based in Libreville. It is the sole training institution of the armed forces. Overview It was founded on 5 November 2001 with the aim of forming the "future intellectual elite of the country". Its mission is to provide general education preparing for enlisted soldiers in the Armed Forces of Gabon as well as commissioned and non-commissioned officers, and some enlisted personnel having special aptitudes and roles. It recruits a special entrance exam to the 6th grade. The pupils of this establishment are traditionally called "troop children", they receive a physical and moral education predisposing them to the career of officer. Libreville
Libreville is the capital and largest city of Gabon. Occupying in the northwestern province of Estuaire, Libreville is a port on the Komo River, near the Gulf of Guinea. As of the 2013 census, its population was 703,904. The area has been inhabited by the Mpongwe people since before the French acquired the land in 1839. Gabonese Republican Guard
The Gabonese Republican Guard (french: Garde républicaine de gabonaises) is an independent military formation in the Republic of Gabon that is responsible for protection of government officials and buildings. It is the most powerful security unit in Gabon and is responsible for ensuring internal security. It is a directly reporting unit of the National Gendarmerie. 2019 Gabonese Coup D'état Attempt
On 7 January 2019, members of the Armed Forces of Gabon announced a coup d'état in Gabon. Military officers claimed that they had ousted President Ali Bongo, who was re-elected in 2016 after a controversial election and protests. During the absence of Ali Bongo, who was receiving medical treatment in Morocco, armed rebels in the capital city Libreville took hostages and declared that they had established a "National Restoration Council" to "restore democracy in Gabon".
