Provincial Highway 27 is a Taiwanese highway that starts from Liouguei, Kaohsiung City and ends in Xinyuan, Pingtung, Pingtung County. The highway connects the inland townships in Kaohsiung and Pingtung to the southern coasts of Taiwan. The route length is . History The highway was opened in 1992. Route description The highway begins at Laonong (荖濃) in Liouguei District, Kaohsiung, at the intersection with Highway 20. The highway continues along Laonong Creek and enters Pingtung County, passing through Gaoshu, Yanpu, and Changzhi. The road then enters downtown Pingtung City, before heading to the coastal regions. Liouguei District, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency ( Taivoan: ''Lakuri''; ) is a rural district of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. It is the third largest district in Kaohsiung City after Tauyuan District and Namasia District. The place-name is derived from the name of a Taivoan community ''Lakuri'' or ''Lakkuli'', which emigrated from Vogavon in Tainan, driven to Kaohsiung by the invasion of Han immigrants and Siraya in the late 17th century. The residents of this district are mainly Hakka (about 44% ) and Hoklo Taiwanese, as well as indigenous peoples and immigrants from other China provinces. Provincial Highway 17 (PH 17), ) is a north–south highway from Qingshui in Taichung City to Fangliao in Pingtung County. The highway is known as Western Coastal Highway (西部濱海公路) since it runs parallel to the western coasts of Taiwan. Since the completion of PH 61 expressway, which parallels PH 17, the latter now mostly handles local traffic. The total length of the highway is . Route description The highway begins at the intersection of PH 1 in Qingshui. PH 1 turns slightly towards inland and PH 17 continues along the coast. Wandan Township () is a rural township in Pingtung County, Taiwan. Names Dutch records used the placenames ''Tamsuy'' and ''Tampsui'' to refer to Tamsui in the north of the island, but have also referred to this area in the south as "Tamsuy". The Southern Cross-Island Highway (), also known as Provincial Highway No. 20, links Tainan City on the west coast to Taitung City on the east coast, on the southern section of the island of Taiwan. The road is long. From west to east, the road passes through the townships of Sinhua, Yujing, Jiasian, and then the aboriginal communities of Taoyuan, Meishan, and Lidao. The highest point of the road, Yakou, is above sea level. The section from Meishan to Yakou Tunnel lies within Yushan National Park. Before crossing the Central Mountain Range, the road follows the Laonong River Valley for a considerable distance.
