Providence University College And Theological Seminary
Providence University College and Theological Seminary is an interdenominational Evangelical Christian university college and theological seminary located approximately south-east of Winnipeg in Otterburne, Manitoba. History The Winnipeg Bible Training School was founded in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1925, and renamed a short time later to Winnipeg Bible Institute. The founding was pushed forward by Reverend H. L. Turner. When it received a provincial charter to grant theological degrees in 1949, it was renamed Winnipeg Bible Institute and College of Theology, and started a full degree-granting program and was renamed Winnipeg Bible College in 1963. In 1970, facing the demolition of its quarters, shortfall in funds, and low enrolment, the college moved 50 kilometers south to Otterburne, Man., where it acquired the vacant building of the former St. Joseph's College, a Roman Catholic high school. The University of Winnipeg (UWinnipeg, UW) is a public research university in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, that offers undergraduate faculties of art, business and economics, education, science and kinesiology and applied health as well as graduate programs. Andrew Unger (born November 8, 1979) is a Canadian writer from Steinbach, Manitoba, best known as the author and founder of the Mennonite satire website The Daily Bonnet (along with the collection ''The Best of the Bonnet'') and for the novel ''Once Removed''. Career Before starting the Daily Bonnet, Unger was a contributor to numerous non-fiction publications including '' Geez'', '' CBC.ca'', and ''Ballast'', sometimes publishing under the pen name Andrew J. Bergman. Early in his career, he also wrote and published fiction and poetry, as well as working as a ghostwriter for New York-based Kevin Anderson & Associates. In 2016 Unger founded the Daily Bonnet and, along with his wife Erin Koop Unger, the non-satirical website Mennotoba in 2017. History The Undecided formed as a punk band in 1994 with members singer Matt Fast, drummer Steve Dueck, John Paul Peters guitar and Mike Kehler. In 1996 they released a demo CD which they called ''Orange Album'', and toured briefly before becoming inactive. The group reformed in 1997 with bassist Dan Thomas. Gwen Smid (born 1979 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) is a Canadian writer of picture books. Writing Smid's first book, "Mary's Atlas: Mary Meets Manitoba", was published in 2008 by Peanut Butter Press, and secured a place on McNally Robinson's bestseller list for months. It depicts a young girl's exploration of Manitoba in search of the Golden Boy's lost torch. This was followed by 2010's "Mary's Atlas: Mary Meets Ontario". Smid's articles have also appeared in sources such as The Globe and Mail, The Ottawa Citizen and various academic journals. Jordan Peters (born December 12, 1998) is a Canadian curler from Rosenort, Manitoba. He currently plays third on Team Jacques Gauthier. Career Peters first represented Manitoba at the 2017 Canadian U18 Curling Championships as third for Brett Walter. There, they finished in tenth place out of twelve teams with a 3–5 record. He won his first Manitoba junior title in 2019 with skip J. T. Ryan, sending the team to the 2019 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. At the championship, they finished round robin and championship pool play with a 7–3 record, qualifying for the playoffs. They defeated Saskatchewan's Rylan Kleiter in the semifinal before losing to British Columbia's Tyler Tardi in the final. Erwin W. Lutzer (born October 3, 1941) is an evangelical Christian speaker, radio broadcaster, and author. He is the former senior pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago, Illinois (19802016). Career Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, Lutzer became a born-again Christian at age 14. Henry Hildebrand (November 16, 1911 – February 7, 2006) is most known for being the founding principal (later called president) of Briercrest Bible Institute for 42 years; the school is now known as Briercrest Family of Schools or Briercrest College and Seminary. History Born in 1911, Henry Hildebrand immigrated to Canada with his parents Peter and Anna, and the rest of their family in 1925 from southern Russia (Ukraine) for political reasons.
