Providence Friars Women's Ice Hockey
The Providence Friars women's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the Providence College. The Friars are a member of Hockey East. They play at the 3,030-seat Schneider Arena in Providence, Rhode Island. History In the 1978–79 season, the Friars held the distinction of being the first team to play the new Harvard Crimson women's ice hockey team. The result was a 17–0 triumph. In 1984, the Friars won the inaugural Eastern College Athletic Conference Women's Championship. In Jackie Barto's first season as coach in 1994–95, the Friars were 18–9–4 and won the Eastern College Athletic Conference title. The following season, the Friars reached the ECAC championship game, but they lost to New Hampshire in a game that lasted five overtimes. Providence Friars
The Providence Friars are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Providence College, located in Providence, Rhode Island. They compete in the Big East Conference (NCAA Division I) for every sport except for ice hockey, where they compete in Hockey East. The Big East Conference was founded in 1979 by former athletic director and men's basketball coach Dave Gavitt. On December 15, 2012, Providence and the other seven Catholic, non-FBS schools announced that they were departing the Big East for a new conference; on March 7, 2013, it was officially confirmed that Providence's new conference would operate under the Big East name. The women's volleyball team, which had been an associate member of the America East Conference before the Big East split, remained in that conference for one more season before joining the Big East for the 2014 season. Fenway Park
Fenway Park is a baseball stadium located in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, near Kenmore Square. Since 1912, it has been the home of the Boston Red Sox, the city's American League baseball team, and since 1953, its only Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise. Offseason * August 20: Karen Thatcher, a 2006 graduate of Providence, and a participant in ice hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics for Team USA has been named as a Friars assistant coach. * Sept 15: The women's ice hockey team organized the first annual Road Hockey Rumble. It was a street hockey tournament to raise money for Children's Charities of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The tournament was played on Sunday, September 12, and the concept was conceived by junior defenseman Christie Jensen. * Genevieve Lacasse participated in the evaluation camp for the senior 2010–11 Canadian national women's team. Offseason *Aug. 31, 2011: Senior goaltender Genevieve Lacasse has completed her first tournament with the Canada’s National women’s ice hockey team. She won two of three games at the 2011 IIHF 12 Nations Tournament. She let in four goals while stopping six shots in a 6-4 loss to Sweden. Earlier in the tournament, she shut out Slovakia. Bob Deraney
Bob Deraney is an American ice hockey coach. Playing career Deraney was a member of the Boston University Terriers men's ice hockey team from 1984 to 1987. During his rookie season in 1984–85, Deraney was named the Terriers' Most Improved Player. In his second season, the Terriers won Hockey East and the Beanpot. Shortly after, Deraney joined the newly formed Johnstown Chiefs of the All-American Hockey League. Deraney won the first game in Johnstown Chiefs history, a 5–3 victory over the visiting Carolina Thunderbirds. Deraney appeared in 13 regular season games, splitting time with future Chiefs general manager Toby O'Brien. Deraney also appeared in two postseason games with the Chiefs. Deraney spent part of his professional career as a member of the Flint Spirits of the International Hockey League, but never appeared in a game.
