Protestants in Haiti are a significant minority of the population. The CIA Factbook reports that around 28.5% of the population is Protestant (Baptist 15.4%, Pentecostal 7.9%, Adventist 3%, Methodist 1.5% other 0.7%). Other sources put the Protestant population higher than this, suggesting that it may form one-third of the population today, as Protestant churches have experienced significant growth in recent decades. Baptist Convention of Haiti (french: Convention Baptiste d'Haïti) is a Baptist Christian denomination, affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance, headquartered in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti. History The Baptist Convention of Haiti has its origins in a mission of the Baptist Missionary Society in 1823 in Cap-Haïtien. In 1923, during U.S. occupation of Haiti, the American Baptist Home Mission Society established and worked at the union of Baptist churches. The Convention is officially formed in 1964. Haitian Vodou
Haitian Vodou is an African diasporic religion that developed in Haiti between the 16th and 19th centuries. It arose through a process of syncretism between several traditional religions of West and Central Africa and Roman Catholicism. There is no central authority in control of the religion and much diversity exists among practitioners, who are known as Vodouists, Vodouisants, or Serviteurs. Vodou revolves around spirits known as '' lwa.'' Typically deriving their names and attributes from traditional West and Central African divinities, they are equated with Roman Catholic saints. The lwa divide up into different groups, the ''nanchon'' ("nations"), most notably the Rada and the Petwo.
