Progressive Alliance
The Progressive Alliance (PA) is a political international of social democratic and progressive political parties and organisations founded on 22 May 2013 in Leipzig, Germany. The alliance was formed as an alternative to the existing Socialist International, of which many of its member parties are former or current members. The Progressive Alliance claims 140 participants from around the world. History The first step towards the creation of the Progressive Alliance was the decision in January 2012 by Sigmar Gabriel, then chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), to cancel payment of the SPD's £100,000 yearly membership fee to the Socialist International. Gabriel had been critical of the Socialist International's admittance and continuing inclusion of undemocratic political movements into the organization. Progressive Alliance (Uruguay)
The Progressive Alliance ''(')'' is a social-democratic political party of Uruguay founded in 1999 by the former Vice President Rodolfo Nin Novoa, and since its foundation, it is part of the Frente Amplio. In August 2009 the Progressive Alliance, Uruguay Assembly led by the then Vice President Danilo Astori and the New Space led by Senator Rafael Michelini joined forces to create the Liber Seregni Front, a political moderate sector within the Frente Amplio. The Christian Democratic Party is part of the Progressive Alliance. In the last election the Progressive Alliance won one seat in the Chamber of Senators and other in the Chamber of Deputies taken by Pablo Pérez for Maldonado Department. A progressive alliance in the UK is the idea of a cross-party political alliance supporting "progressive politics", generally in opposition to right-wing parties, chiefly the Conservative Party. The Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA) was a centrist political party in British Columbia, Canada founded by Gordon Wilson (British Columbia politician), Gordon Wilson, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Powell River—Sunshine Coast. Wilson, previously the leader of the British Columbia Liberal Party, led that party through a breakthrough in the 1991 British Columbia general election, provincial election of 1991, in which they rose from no parliamentary representation to official opposition status. He was unable to hold his caucus together, however, and was forced to call a leadership convention following revelations about his personal relationship with another member of the small Liberal caucus, Judi Tyabji, MLA for Okanagan East. The Progressive National Alliance ( he, ברית לאומית מתקדמת, ''Brit Leumit Mitkademet''), originally known as National Unity – National Progressive Alliance ( he, אחדות לאומית – הברית הלאומית המתקדמת, ''Akdhut Leumit – HaBrit HaLeumit HaMitkademet''), was a small Israeli Arab political party in Israel in the early 21st century. Background The party was formed in December 2002 when Hashem Mahameed left Hadash. The Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) is a political party in Nigeria. The party won gubernatorial elections in 2003 and 2007 in Abia State. The party also won the governorship election in 2007 in Imo State. The Governor of Abia State is Chief Theodore Ahamefula Orji and deputy Comrade Chris Akomas while the Governor of Imo State is Chief Ikedi Ohakim. The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) is the political group in the European Parliament of the Party of European Socialists (PES). The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats was officially founded as a Socialist Group on 29 June 1953 which makes it the second oldest political group in the European Parliament after Renew Europe (Renew). It adopted its present-day name on 23 June 2009. Centre-left in orientation, the group mostly comprises social-democratic parties and is affiliated with the Progressive Alliance and Socialist International. Until the 1999 European Parliament elections, it was the largest group in the Parliament, but since then it has always been the second-largest group.
