The Grapes (band)
The Grapes were an American jam bandGrapeful head, ''Fort Worth Star-Telegram'' - March 17, 1995 - 8 STAR TIME and southern rock band band from Atlanta, who performed from 1986 to 1997. 1980s Bassist/vocalist Charlie Lonsdorf formed the band with drummer Preston Holcomb in 1986. Most of their catalogue at the time were Grateful Dead and R&B covers. Early guitarists included Danny Simmons, Johnny Tessavarie and Katie Moore of Deep Blue Sun. After the original guitarist left the band guitarist/songwriter Romin Dawson and lead guitarist Mike 'Ted' Norton joined the band. An important moment came for the band when Lonsdorf introduced his song Water To Wine, the bands first original song. Around this time they added second drummer/percussionist Steve Baird. Faced with rising popularity but still being under legal age to play in clubs, they found theaters and warehouses to rent, designed and distributed flyers. Blues Rock
Blues rock is a fusion music genre that combines elements of blues and rock music. It is mostly an electric ensemble-style music with instrumentation similar to electric blues and rock (electric guitar, electric bass guitar, and drums, sometimes with keyboards and harmonica). Jam Band
A jam band is a musical group whose concerts (and live albums) are characterized by lengthy improvisational "jams." These include extended musical improvisation over rhythmic grooves and chord patterns, and long sets of music which often cross genre boundaries. Most jam band sets will consist of variations on songs that have already been released as studio recordings. Jam bands are known for having a very fluid structure, often having one song lead into another without any interruption. The jam-band musical style, spawned from the psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s, was a feature of nationally famed groups such as the Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band, whose regular touring schedules continued into the 1990s. Intersound Records
Intersound Records was an American independent record label that operated in the 1980s and 1990s. The company was founded by industry veteran Don Johnson in 1982, who purchased some assets of Pickwick Records from its parent company and named his new label Intersound. The company initially focused on releasing licensed recordings of classical music, but gradually moved towards signing contemporary artists until the classical releases, which had once made 95% of the company's revenue, accounted for just 5% of sales. John Keane is an American record producer based in Athens, Georgia, who has worked extensively with R.E.M., Indigo Girls and Widespread Panic. He owns and operates John Keane Studios in Athens, which opened in 1981. Keane has participated in many music conference panels as an expert on subjects such as record production, home recording, and Pro Tools. These include South by Southwest in Austin, The Tape Op conference in Portland OR, Athfest in Athens, GA, and the Cutting Edge in New Orleans.
