Princess Marie Alexandra of Baden (''Marie Alexandra Thyra Victoria Louise Carola Hilda''; 1 August 1902 – 29 January 1944) was a Hessian princess by marriage. Family She was the only daughter and elder child of Prince Maximilian of Baden (1867–1929) and Princess Marie Louise of Hanover and Cumberland. Her paternal grandparents were Prince Wilhelm of Baden (1829–97) and Princess Maria of Leuchtenberg (1841–1914), a daughter of Maximilian, Duke of Leuchtenberg (1817–52) and Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna (1819–1876). Christian IX (8 April 181829 January 1906) was King of Denmark from 1863 until his death in 1906. From 1863 to 1864, he was concurrently Duke of Schleswig, Holstein and Lauenburg. Leopold (29 August 1790 – 24 April 1852) succeeded in 1830 as the Grand Duke of Baden, reigning until his death in 1852. Although a younger child, Leopold was the first son of Margrave Karl Friederich of Baden by his second, morganatic wife, Louise Karoline Geyer von Geyersberg.
