PrimeLines (Coventry)
The PrimeLines initiative in Coventry, England, was a £42 million budgeted scheme which aimed at improving bus journey times, reliability, and accessibility along routes radiating out from the city centre of Coventry. History The buses used in the project were purchased by Centro in 2003, with the funding for the project being secured in 2004. Funding of the project was split between the Department for Transport (£28.5 million), West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive (AKA Centro) block-funding (£5.75 million), and National Express (£7.25 million). The decision to go ahead with the construction of bus lanes for the project was taken in November 2007, though part of the original plan (the construction of a bus lane that would have extended into Hearsall Common) was scrapped due to public protest. Mercedes-Benz O405
The Mercedes-Benz O405 was a single-decker bus manufactured by Mercedes-Benz from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s as either an integral bus or a bus chassis and was the last VöV SL-II standard bus in production. It was the replacement for the Mercedes-Benz O305 and was widely used in Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore with 12,000 produced. Coventry ( or ) is a City status in the United Kingdom, city in the West Midlands (county), West Midlands, England. It is on the River Sherbourne. Hearsall Common
Hearsall Common is located in Earlsdon, Coventry in the West Midlands, central England. The common consists of a large grassy area with a smaller partly tarmacadamed area on one side of Hearsall Common Road, and a wooded nature reserve on the other side. It is free to enter and open to the public as of right, 24 hrs a day; however, after several years of residents complaining about itinerant or nomadic travellers using the common, an embankment was built alongside the roads to prevent vehicles from driving onto the common. Holbrooks
Holbrooks is a residential area of Coventry, West Midlands, England. Most of the length of the four brooks which pass through the area are covered or culverted, one culvert is adjacent to the recently built housing on Watery Lane. Another brook passes through and under the grounds of Parkgate School. The brooks then head off towards the river Sherbourne and the Sowe. National Express Coventry is a bus operator providing services in Coventry. It is a subsidiary of National Express operating on the operators licence of National Express West Midlands. History In October 1986 the bus operations of the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive were separated into West Midlands Travel to comply with the Transport Act 1985. West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive
The West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive (WMPTE) was the public body responsible for public transport in the West Midlands metropolitan county in the United Kingdom from 1969 until 2016. The organisation operated under the name Centro from 1990, and was publicly branded as Network West Midlands from 2005. Initially, WMPTE was also responsible for the operation of bus services within the West Midlands. However, following deregulation in 1986 it ceased operating services directly and assumed a purely coordinating role.
