Primal Scream (Primal Scream Album)
''Primal Scream'' is the second studio album by Scottish rock band Primal Scream. It was released on 4 September 1989 in the United Kingdom by Creation Records and in the United States by Mercenary Records. Musically, it took a harder rock approach than their 1987 debut ''Sonic Flower Groove'' and did not achieve great success. However, the song "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have" was later remixed to provide the breakthrough single " Loaded", which appeared on their much celebrated third album ''Screamadelica''. Critical reception The album received mixed-to-positive reviews from music critics. Tim Sendra of AllMusic wrote: "While the group was capable of whipping up a credible approximation of thuggish hard rock, Bobby Gillespie's fragile wisp of a voice is rather ill-suited to kicking out the jams." Primal Scream
Primal Scream are a Scottish rock band originally formed in 1982 in Glasgow by Bobby Gillespie (vocals) and Jim Beattie. The band's current lineup consists of Gillespie, Andrew Innes (guitar), Simone Butler (bass), and Darrin Mooney (drums). Barrie Cadogan has toured and recorded with the band since 2006 as a replacement after the departure of guitarist Robert "Throb" Young. Primal Scream had been performing live from 1982 to 1984, but their career did not take off until Gillespie left his position as drummer of The Jesus and Mary Chain. The band were a key part of the mid-1980s indie pop scene, but eventually moved away from their jangly sound, taking on more psychedelic and garage rock influences, before incorporating a dance music element to their sound with their 1991 album '' Screamadelica'', which broke them into the mainstream. Loaded (Primal Scream Song)
"Loaded" is a song by Scottish rock band Primal Scream, released on 19 February 1990 as the lead single from their third studio album '' Screamadelica'' (1991). Mixed and produced by Andrew Weatherall, it is a remix of an earlier song titled "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have". In 2014, ''NME'' placed the song at number 59 in its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Inspiration and composition Primal Scream first became aware of Andrew Weatherall after he published a favourable review of their eponymous second album in the ''Boys Own'' fanzine. Having subsequently met him at an acid house party at which he was DJing and become friends through various later meetings, it was suggested that he should remix "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have" from the album, work for which he was to receive a fee of £500. Alan McGee
Alan John McGee (born 29 September 1960) is a Scottish businessman and music industry executive. He has been a record label owner, musician, manager, and music blogger for ''The Guardian''. He co-founded the independent Creation Records label, running it from 1983 until its closure in 1999. He subsequently founded the Poptones label, running it from 1999 to 2007. He has managed or championed acts such as the Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine, Oasis, and the Libertines. Martin Duffy (musician)
Martin Bernard Duffy (18 May 1967 – 18 December 2022) was an English musician who originally played keyboards with Felt (band), Felt and most famously with Primal Scream. Career Duffy was born in Birmingham and grew up in Rednal in the south of the city, attending St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, Birmingham, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in King's Norton, and growing up listening to punk rock, as well as Two-tone (music genre), two-tone, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Duffy joined the indie rock band Felt (band), Felt as keyboard player in 1985. Toby (drummer)
Toby Toman, is a drummer who played with various British bands including The Nosebleeds, Ludus, The Durutti Column, Blue Orchids, and Primal Scream, working often with German singer Nico, known for her role with The Velvet Underground, while she was living in Manchester, England through the 1980s. Biography Toman born Philip Tomanov, Wythenshawe, Manchester, one of four brothers. There he attended school with Ed Garrity and Pete Crooks, with whom he shared musical interests. These three formed Wild Ram, which evolved into Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds, shortly after guitarist Vini Reilly joined. Although known in the Manchester area, they only released one single "Ain't Bin to No Music School", in 1977. Robert Young (musician)
Robert "Throb" Young (19 November 1964 – 9 September 2014) was a Scottish musician. He was a member of the alternative rock band Primal Scream from 1984 to 2006. Career Young met Primal Scream singer Bobby Gillespie when they were both studying at King's Park Secondary School in Glasgow, and he joined the band in 1984. He performed on every Primal Scream album until his departure in 2006. He was originally the bass player. Primal Scream's debut album, ''Sonic Flower Groove'', was released in 1987. After the album was released, guitarist Jim Beattie left the band and Young took over that role. Following 2006's '' Riot City Blues'', Young left the band. Andrew Innes
Andrew Colin Innes (born 16 May 1962 in Glasgow) is a Scottish-born, London-based musician. He is best known for being the rhythm guitarist in Scottish rock band Primal Scream. Biography Early years While in high school in 1978, Innes was the guitarist for a Glasgow punk band called The Drains. He met Alan McGee and Bobby Gillespie when they had joined the band. After the band's demise, Innes along with McGee briefly joined the band H2O then relocated to London where they formed The Laughing Apple, a band of which recorded three singles in 1981 and 1982, two of which were released on Autonomy, and the third was put out on their own Essential record label. Bobby Gillespie
Robert "Bobby" Gillespie (born 22 June 1961) is a Scottish musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the lead singer, founding member, and primary lyricist of the alternative rock band Primal Scream. He was also the drummer for The Jesus and Mary Chain in the mid-1980s.
