President Pro Tempore Of The Vermont Senate
The President ''pro tempore'' of the Vermont Senate presides over the Senate of the U.S. state of Vermont in the absence of the Lieutenant Governor. The President ''pro tempore'' also sets the policy priorities and legislative agenda for the Senate. Duties In addition to presiding in the absence of the lieutenant governor, the President ''pro tempore'' is third in the gubernatorial line of succession, following the Lieutenant Governor and Speaker of the House of Representatives. The Senate President ''pro tempore'' also serves as a member of the Senate's Committee on Committees. The Committee on Committees, made up of the Lieutenant Governor, President of the Senate and a State Senator chosen by his or her peers, is responsible for making committee assignments and designating committee chairpersons, vice chairpersons and clerks. Vermont Senate
The Vermont Senate is the upper house of the Vermont General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Vermont. The senate consists of 30 members. Senate districting divides the 30 members into three single-member districts, six two-member districts, three three-member districts, and one six-member district. Each senator represents at least 20,300 citizens. Senators are elected to two-year terms and there is no limit to the number of terms that a senator may serve. As in other upper houses of state and territorial legislatures and the U.S. Senate, the state senate of Vermont has special functions, such as confirming or rejecting gubernatorial appointments to executive departments, the state cabinet, commissions, and boards, as well as electing members to the Vermont Supreme Court. Horace Eaton
Horace Eaton (June 22, 1804 – July 4, 1855) was an American Whig politician, a medical doctor, the 14th lieutenant governor of Vermont, and the 18th governor of Vermont. Biography Eaton was born in Barnard, Vermont, on June 22, 1804. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1825, taught at Middlebury Academy for two years, then moved to Enosburg, a village in Berkshire, Vermont, where his father practiced medicine. He studied with his father while attending medical school at Castleton State College; Eaton graduated in 1828, and then joined his father's practice. He was married twice; first to Cordelia H. Fuller with whom he had two children, and then to Edna Palmer. Career Eaton was town clerk of Enosburg. He was a member of the Vermont Senate in 1837 and from 1839 to 1842. Mortimer Robinson Proctor (May 30, 1889 – April 28, 1968), known as Mortimer R. Proctor, was an American politician from Vermont. He served as the 62nd lieutenant governor of Vermont from 1941 to 1945, and as the 66th governor of Vermont from 1945 to 1947. Biography Proctor was born in Proctor, Vermont, to Fletcher Dutton Proctor, the fifty-first Governor of Vermont, and Minnie Euretta Robinson Proctor. He studied at The Hill School. He graduated from Yale University in 1912. He married first Margaret Cynthia Chisholm on May 30, 1916, in Proctor. He married second Dorothy Chisholm, the sister of his first wife, on March 8, 1924. William Henry Wills (October 26, 1882 – March 6, 1946) was an American politician from the U.S. state of Vermont. He was the 61st lieutenant governor of Vermont from 1937 to 1941 and the 65th governor of Vermont from 1941 to 1945. In 1944, Wills was a delegate to the Republican National Convention.
