Premonition (1947 Film)
''Premonition'' ( cs, Předtucha) is a 1947 Czechoslovak drama film directed by Otakar Vávra and starring Nataša Tanská and Rudolf Hrušínský. The film was screened at 1948 Locarno Film Festival. The film is an adaptation of Marie Pujmanová's novel ''Premonition''. Originally Miroslav Cikán tried to make the film in 1944 with Jana Dítětová in the main role, but the production was canceled only after a few days of filming. Otakar Vávra re-wrote the screenplay and made his 1947 version with a different cast. František Smolík played the role of the father in both films. Otakar Vávra
Otakar Vávra (28 February 1911 – 15 September 2011) was a Czech film director, screenwriter and pedagogue. He was born in Hradec Králové, Austria-Hungary, now part of the Czech Republic. Biography and career Vávra attended universities in Brno and Prague, where he studied architecture. During 1929–30, while still a student, he participated in the making of a handful of documentaries and wrote movie scripts. In 1931, he produced the experimental film ''Světlo proniká tmou''. The first movie he directed was 1937's '' Panenství''. His 1938 film ''The Merry Wives'' was praised in Variety for "first-rate direction, a salty yarn and elaborate production effort", even though it had undergone certain cuts because it was considered too "ribald" by American censors. Vávra was a member of the Communist Party from 1945 to 1989. Ing. Jaroslav Mareš (28 December 1937 in Brno, Czechoslovakia – 5 May 2021, Prague) was a Czech biologist, traveller and writer. He graduated from The University of Economics in Prague, getting a degree of Ing (he studied international business). He worked for ČSA in Iran and later in Canada. He visited 85 countries and organised several expeditions for research of cryptids, such as Kongamato (for this he was offered the membership of the International Society for Cryptozoology which he accepted), Nandi bear, Megalania prisca, Bigfoot, Yeti, Nessie, Ogopogo, Champ, megalodon, Lusca, Ambazombi and others. In 1978 he organised an expedition to the tepui which probably inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for writing The Lost World (a book based on stories told to Doyle by Colonel Percy Fawcett).
