Premier's Climate Change Council
The Premier’s Climate Change Council was established by the Government of South Australia under the '' Climate Change and Greenhouse Emissions Reduction Act 2007''. The Council provides independent advice to the Minister responsible for Climate Change about matters related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and climate change adaptation and was formed in 2008 during the Rann government. The Council's membership represents the business community, the environment and conservation sector, the scientific community and state and local governments. It is chaired by prominent South Australian businessman Martin Haese, who was appointed to the role in 2019. In 2019 the Council supported the development of the ''Blue Carbon Strategy for South Australia'',. to help mitigate climate change by protecting the state's blue carbon sinks, including seagrass meadows, saltmarshes and mangroves. The politics of climate change results from different perspectives on how to respond to climate change. Global warming is driven largely by the emissions of greenhouse gases due to human economic activity, especially the burning of fossil fuels, certain industries like cement and steel production, and land use for agriculture and forestry. Jean Palutikof
Jean Palutikof is founding Director of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF) at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia. She has held this position since 2008. Mary Josephine O'Kane, AC (born 1954) an Australian scientist and engineer, is the Chair of the Independent Planning Commission of New South Wales (formerly the NSW Planning Assessment Commission). Paul Sinclair Heithersay is a public servant employed by the Government of South Australia. He is the chief executive of the Department for Energy and Mining.
