Pratt's Falls Park
Pratt's Falls Park is a county park in Pompey, New York, United States. This park officially opened to the public on July 3, 1934. It contains Pratt's Falls, a ribbon or cascade style waterfall, and various facilities and trails. Pratt's Falls park is part of the Onondaga County Parks system. History In 1796 this land housed one of Onondaga County's first mills. This saw mill, owned and operated by Manoah Pratt, Sr. and Abraham Smith formerly of Connecticut, ran until 1798 when it was turned into a flour mill. Pratts Falls and the surrounding acres were sold to Onondaga County by owner, Merritt Alonzo Hall, for $8,000 in 1913. Pompey, New York
Pompey is a town in the southeast part of Onondaga County, New York. The population was 7,080 at the time of the 2010 census. The town was named after the Roman general and political leader Pompey by a late 18th-century clerk interested in the Classics in the new federal republic. History The area of Pompey was originally part of the territory traditionally occupied by the historic Onondaga, one of the Five Nations of the Iroquois tribes of the powerful ''Haudenosaunee'', or Iroquois Confederacy. Snowshoe
Snowshoes are specialized outdoor gear for walking over snow. Their large footprint spreads the user's weight out and allows them to travel largely on top of rather than through snow. Adjustable bindings attach them to appropriate winter footwear. Traditional snowshoes have a hardwood frame filled in with rawhide latticework. Modern snowshoes are made of lightweight metal, plastic, and other synthetic materials. Geocaching
Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world.
