Poznań Wschód railway station ( en, Poznań East) is a railway station serving the north east of the city of Poznań, in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland. The station is located at the junction of the Warsaw–Kunowice railway, Poznań–Skandawa railway and Poznań–Bydgoszcz railway. The train services are operated by Przewozy Regionalne and Koleje Wielkopolskie. History The station used to be known as ''Poznań Główna'' after the neighbourhood it lies in, however this caused confusion with the similarly named Poznań Główny railway station Poznań Główny, anglicised to Poznan Main, is the chief railway station for the city of Poznań, Poland's fifth-largest city, and capital of the Greater Poland Province. Greater Poland Voivodeship ( pl, Województwo wielkopolskie; ), also known as Wielkopolska Voivodeship, Wielkopolska Province, or Greater Poland Province, is a voivodeship, or province, in west-central Poland. It was created on 1 January 1999 out of the former Poznań, Kalisz, Konin, Piła and Leszno Voivodeships, pursuant to the Polish local government reforms adopted in 1998. Warsaw–Kunowice Railway
The Warsaw–Kunowice railway is a 475-kilometer long railway line in Poland connecting Warsaw, Poznań through Łowicz, Kutno and further to the Polish-German border at Frankfurt an der Oder. The line is one of the longest and most important routes in Poland and is part of the European E20 (Berlin - Moscow) route. History The present day line consists of parts of different railways constructed during the 19th century when Poland was divided between the Russian empire, Prussia and Austrian Empire, Austria. The first calls for a railway between Poznań, which at the time as the capital of the Prussian controlled Grand Duchy of Poznań, and Frankfurt (Oder) were made in 1842 when an appeal was made to landowners along the route. The Poznań–Skandawa railway is a railway line in Poland. It connects Poznań with Inowrocław, Toruń, and Olsztyn, then continues to the Polish-Russian border at Skandawa, Kaliningrad Oblast. Opening The line was opened in stages between 1871 and 1873. Closure The line between Korsze and Żeleznodorożnyj became single track from 1 January 1945. On 12 March 2000 the line between Skandawa and Żeleznodorożnyj was closed to passenger traffic and on 3 April 2000 also between Korsze and Skandawa. Poznań Główny, anglicised to Poznan Main, is the chief railway station for the city of Poznań, Poland's fifth-largest city, and capital of the Greater Poland Province. The station is located at a junction of Warsaw–Kunowice railway, Wrocław–Poznań railway, Kluczbork–Poznań railway, Poznań–Szczecin railway and Poznań–Piła railway.
