Agustin Podes Kitan is a Filipino powerlifter who has competed at the Summer Paralympics. Early life Kitan was born on August 6, 1976 in Baguio, Philippines though he is a native of Bauko, Mountain Province. He acquired an orthopedic impairment due to poliomyelitis. Career Agustin Kitan took up the sport of powerlifting in 1996. He debuted at the Summer Paralympics in the 2004 edition which was hosted in Athens, Greece. He finished 14th among 16 athletes after he register a lift of 120 kg in the -52 kg event. Kitan returned to the Summer Paralympics in the 2012 edition. Adeline Dumapong-Ancheta (born December 13, 1973) is a Filipina Paralympic powerlifter. She became the first Filipina to win a Paralympic medal ever when she won bronze at the 2000 Summer Paralympics. Early life and education Adeline Dumapong was born in Kiangan, Ifugao to a family of six children. She contracted polio when she was three years old. She spent her elementary and high school days in Bahay Mapagmahal, a housing institution for youth with disabilities and went to school at NOH School for Crippled Children inside the compound of Philippine Orthopedic Center, Quezon City. Đặng Thị Linh Phượng is a Vietnamese powerlifter who has competed for her country at the ASEAN Para Games, and the Summer Paralympics. Career Đặng Thị Linh Phượng was given up to an orphanage by her parents when she was born without legs. She was adopted by her grandmother, and was brought up by her grandmother's housekeeper. Phượng was not sent to school, but was bought school books by her neighbour and was home schooled. After finishing school, she began working for a handicraft company near her home. She took up power lifting at the suggestion of a colleague. Phượng found it initially difficult, but persevered and was selected to compete in her city's disabled sports festival. Ni Nengah Widiasih (born 12 December 1992) is an Indonesian powerlifter. She competed in the 2012 Summer Paralympics, 2016 Summer Paralympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Widiasih was born and raised in Karangasem, Bali. She lost use of her legs at age four and began using a wheelchair. When she was in the sixth grade she began living at the dormitory run by the Disabled Children's Counselling Foundation (). Her daily expenses were handled by the foundation, and, beginning in middle school, her education was paid for through scholarships. , she is in the second year of senior high school. He won a silver medal for Malaysia at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, Malaysia in powerlifting in the men's -107 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo. The 2022 ASEAN Para Games, officially known as the 11th ASEAN Para Games, is an upcoming biannual multi-sport event for athletes with physical disabilities to be hosted in Surakarta, Indonesia. Participants are expected from 11 countries in Southeast Asia. The games are patterned after the Paralympics. Originally set to be host by Vietnam in 2021, the Games were initially cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic before hosting rights were transferred to Indonesia. It is also originally scheduled from 23 to 30 July 2022, later moved to 30 July to 6 August 2022. Development Host selection Originally the 2021 ASEAN Para Games was intended to be held in Vietnam, the same host nation as the 2021 Southeast Asian Games.
