The Mikhailovsky Palace (russian: Михайловский дворец, tr=Mikhailovskiy dvorets) is a grand ducal palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It is located on Arts Square and is an example of Empire style neoclassicism. The palace currently houses the main building of the Russian Museum and displays its collections of early, folk, eighteenth, and nineteenth century art. It was originally planned as the residence of Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich, the youngest son of Emperor Paul I. Work had not yet begun on the Mikhailovsky Palace, when Paul was overthrown and killed in a palace coup that brought Michael's elder brother to the throne as Alexander I. The new emperor resurrected the idea for a new palace by the time Michael was 22, and plans were drawn up by Carlo Rossi to develop a new site in Saint Petersburg. Aaron Harry Gorson (2 June 1872 in Kovno, Russian Empire – 11 October 1933 in New York City) was an American artist. Life He immigrated to the United States, in Philadelphia, in 1888. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, in 1894–1896 and 1897–1898, where he studied with Thomas Anshutz. He studied at the Académie Julian, in 1900, École des Beaux-Arts, and Académie Colarossi. His work appeared in the 1902 exhibition of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He moved to Pittsburgh. Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments with a medium of drying oil as the binder. It has been the most common technique for artistic painting on wood panel or canvas for several centuries, spreading from Europe to the rest of the world.
