Port of Tanjung Perak ( id, Pelabuhan Tanjung Perak) is the second busiest sea port in Indonesia, located at Surabaya, East Java. It is the main port for the eastern part of the island of Java. The port is accessed from the North through the Madura Strait, a long, wide, and deep channel between East Java and Madura Island. Because of its strategic position and the existence of surrounding advantageous hinterlands, the port constitutes the center of inter island shipping for Eastern Indonesia. Container terminal of the port is known as Terminal Petikemas. The port loaded and unloaded 3.55 million and 3.8 million TEUs of cargo during 2017 and 2018 respectively. Surabaya Dock Of 3,500 Tons
Surabaya Dock of 3,500 tons was a floating dry dock which served in Indonesia from about 1913 till about 1956. Context Surabaya is on Madura Strait at the mouth of the Kali Mas river. In the natural situation, ships that wanted to trade with the city could safely anchor off the coast, so smaller ships could transload goods to the city proper. The good connections to the interior that the river provided made Surabaya a good location for a harbor. In the mid 1830s the Dutch Navy decided to locate her main base in the Indies at Surabaya. In the 1840 this led to the construction of the Maritime Establishment (Dutch: Maritiem Etablissement) just east of the river. Center piece of the base were a wet dock called basin, where ships could attach to a quay, and a dry dock. Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument, locally referred to as Monjaya, is a monument located in Semampir, Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia near the Port of Tanjung Perak. It is a statue of an Indonesian Navy officer wearing Ceremonial Service Dress, complete with his sword of honor. The officer depicted staring into the ocean, looking as if he is challenging the tides. It is meant to represent the preparedness of the Indonesian Navy for any scenario. The statue stands at a height of 60.6 meters (approximately 198 feet and 9 inches), about the same as the adjacent building. The Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument represents the nation's future generation's optimism towards the accomplishment of the Indonesian dream. Operation Transom
Operation Transom was an attack by Allied forces against the Japanese-occupied city of Surabaya on the Indonesian island of Java during World War II. Conducted by the British-led Eastern Fleet, the operation took place on 17 May 1944 and involved American and British carrier-based aircraft bombing the city's docks and an oil refinery. An American torpedo bomber was shot down, and two British torpedo bombers were lost in accidents. The attack on Surabaya was the second, and final, joint American-British aircraft carrier raid in the Indian Ocean during 1944. It was undertaken to divert Japanese forces from the Allied landing on Wakde island off New Guinea and make use of the American aircraft carrier on its return voyage to the Pacific.
