Port Of Grays Harbor
The Port of Grays Harbor is a port authority in Grays Harbor County, in the U.S. state of Washington. The Port owns waterfront facilities in Aberdeen and Hoquiam; Bowerman Airport near Hoquiam, the only jet-capable airport on the Washington coast; and the grounds of the former Satsop Nuclear Power Plant in Satsop, which it bought in 2013 to turn into a business park. The port was established in 1911, in what was then Chehalis County. The deep-draft pier and terminal opened in September 1922 and by 1924, more than one billion board feet of lumber had been shipped. By the 2010s other industries had become more prominent, including imported and exported automobiles transported via roll-on/roll-off ships and a rental car reconditioning facility for cars destined to auction. It is the West Coast's largest automobile export port and the United States' closest deepwater port to Asia. Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) ships are cargo ships designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as cars, motorcycles, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, buses, trailers, and railroad cars, that are driven on and off the ship on their own wheels or using a platform vehicle, such as a self-propelled modular transporter. This is in contrast to lift-on/lift-off (LoLo) vessels, which use a crane to load and unload cargo. Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority
Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, also known as Grays Harbor Historical Seaport is a government authority created in 1986 by the city of Aberdeen, Washington, as a 501(c)(3) corporation. It was created to commemorate Washington's centennial of statehood. Operations began in 1987 with the purpose of building and operating a full-scale reproduction of the 18th-century brig ''Lady Washington''. Additional goals were to build and operate a maritime museum to promote tourism and economic development in the Grays Harbor area, and to provide educational programs for schools and communities. Washington State Route 8
State Route 8 (SR 8) is a state highway in Grays Harbor and Thurston counties, of the U.S. state of Washington. It extends from U.S. Route 12 (US 12) in the city of Elma, east to an interchange with US 101 about northwest of the state capital, Olympia. SR 8 intersects SR 108 west of McCleary. The route connects Elma and Olympia as part of a corridor between Aberdeen and the Puget Sound region. The highway was part of the Elma – Grand Mound branch of Primary State Highway 9 (PSH 9 EG) from 1937 until 1964, which ran from Elma southeast to Interstate 5 (I-5), formerly US 99 in Grand Mound, which was later added as part of US 12 in 1967.
